whipped. I assumed you were too, and therefore parsed it as coporal
punishment.

Nope, don't buy that. You see, death is a one time only offer, and, as you
pointed out, pretty painless and easy. Getting whipped, however, *should*
hurt like **** and be repetaed until the lesson is learned that society
will not tolerate [1] the kind of behaviour for which the whipee was
convicted.
