I ripped it to HDD and watched it again.

Although it glossed over having to heat up the lunar soil to about 600c to
extract the Helium3. But strip mining the moon should incense people. The
same people who were advocating (on R2) the Plod who accidentally cooked his
dogs having to serve a life sentence (or worse). Which is a good thing.

  4. I liked it a lot - put me in mind of an episode of The Outer Limits,
    which I used to enjoy.

I particularly enjoyed the proper model shots. Very refreshing in this
    CGI age.

  5. Isn't the level of 3He on the moon total speculation?

Well, assuming the moon is made up of the same material that made up the
earth, which is the current theory, it'll have veins of radio active
elements that release beta particles as they decay just as happens here.

No, it's not a total speculation. It's an educated guess based on
    studies
of samples of lunar regolith brought back by Apollo missions and Luna
    unmanned probes.

And the movie is a great example of an SF movie done right. Which is
probably why it in Poland it was only shown at one movie festival and
won't reach the cinemas at all. Wankers, the lot of them.

I think there is a bit of science behind it and there were the mineral
samples brought back here of course but I was just speculating about how it
would be extracted if it was there. Not that getting 600c out of solar
reflection on the bright side would be a problem.

Weird, I was only saying last night 'has ukrm done Moon yet?'.

It's excellent and the short 'Whistle' on the DVD is worth a watch as
    well.

I thought it was derivative and unoriginal. Although the miniature
    work was good.

At the beginning, I thought that it looked like a cross between 2001 and
Silent Running, and vaguely wondered whether it made Champ cry.
