I made the trip up to San rafael today, to pay off the rapacious
tow truck CS's and to sell Mr. VTR to the motorcycles-go-to-heaven salvage
guy. ( a very nice guy, by the way)

I took some close up pictures and posted them here:
    http://www.colevalley.net/vtr_last_look/

I was very sad to let this guy go, it has been the most fun of any thing I
have ever owned, and considering I have had a fkcing lot of these
    guys,that means a lot.
If you ever want to own a bike with some personality, that will never let
you down, get a VTR. They are well worth the trouble of having a 125 mile
    tank range...):
Bye Mr. VTR. It was always a pleasure.

Wow. I've been following your saga. I am so glad to you are able to post.
    That is some serious damage.

Bring back the coyotes and wolves to kill the deer. My best day of riding
last year was opening day of deer season. The road side hunters kept all
the deer far far away :).

Damn, glad you are ok, I don't think I've ever seen a clip-on snapped in
    half like that.

I've always wanted one of those things, ever since a buddy let me ride
his. It was too quiet, you couldn't hear the engine running. Which
was why it was surprising to have the front wheel come up so easily.
Whenever I see them used they're asking too much for em though.

Unless you hit a moose, then the bike might not have made it but we'd
    be having a bar-b-que.

Yikes. That fork damage is impressive, I assume the frame's besnt as well if
the forks look like that. Did the bike hit some other hard object? (Could
explain one of the dings in your helmet :)

That was all from hitting the dear and the resulting tumble, without any
    other hits?

Wow. Glad you came away relatively OK, *really*. There some some heavy duty
tranformation of kinetic energy involved there...

So the bike hit your head hard alright... :) hey, it's a good story to tell
about the bent forks... I know I would. "And then, you won't believe this,
the bike hit me so hard in the head I *saw* the damn fork bend right before
    my eyes... bla bla .."

I've *twice* had the privilege to see myself on tape doing something I had
    no recollection of.

The first time was in a taped amateur boxing fight. Looking at the fight, it
was a good one, good action and hard exchanges. At some point in time in the
second round, my head gets snapped real good, and my knees visibly buckle
badly, but I don't go down. However, that must have been the point that
erased any memory of the entire day. I went back to my corner, seemingly
said I didn't feel right, and they stopped the fight right away. The scary
thing is people who knew me thought I was alright. I cleared the doctor's
questions. But I woke up the next morning not remembering anything about the
entire previous two days, they'd been knocked out of my memory.

And I have an identical non-memory about a highside during a trackday. I
happen to have it on tape (now on DVD), and it's a nice one off a scenic
turn, and I land hard on my back off the air and it's obvious on contact
with the ground I am *out*, I just slide like a slab of meat after hitting
the back of my head hard. No injuries other than a broken little finger and
a badly bruised ankle. But no recollection of the accident whatsoever. I
remember getting on the bike with my group and several nice turns. I don't
even remember losing the bike and highsiding, it's wiped clean off my
    memory.

Then again, oddly, I remember being knocked out sparring while training for
an amateur boxing fight. I vividly remember the odd feeling of gettting hit,
and then losing control of my body except -briefly- of my arms, because I
tried to throw 2 punches in retaliation while falling over helplessly and
falling flat on my face, totally conscious and utterly remembering
everything - the shock of not being able to control my body while sprawling
on the floor trying to get up (and failing), the concern around me, and the
relief when everything started to come back to me after a little while and I
could tell everybody I was OK.

The human brain is an interesting thing.

Dang Jimbo...you broke the steering head off of the frame!
with no significant impact injuries from the deer, just from
when you hit the ground... thats amazing. You have great
    bones apparently.

Out of curriosity if you can say... what did the salvage guy
    give you for the remains?

He will make another 500 on the motor...after he takes it
apart and stocks the parts for a while... still its fair all
    around as you mentioned.
