My cock looks nothing like a poppy!
How long did it take to get the ankle to flex? 1 year and 10 months?

The AlpineStars trials boots I owned for green laning featured a heavy
PU topfinish which resisted all attempts by several different types of
preservative (Preslea, Hide Food and others) to pass through and
    soften the leather.

You just know I wouldn't have taken this advice given my background :)
I wondered if the lads who'd done off-roading in their youth knew of any
off the shelf stuff that MXers use. Unfortunately it's going to be wear
    them til they feel right.

Off-road boots are the only thing A/stars really do know how to make.

I love my Alpinestar SP-1 gloves. I'm on my second pair.

Lozzo - if they aren't coated in any water repelling gear, try wiping
them with milk - We used to use it in the shoe trade to soften leather
when we had a major problem with something.

Otherwise invert them over a steaming kettle for a few minutes, then (as
soon as they cool enough) put them on.

That'll be why my AS MX boots snapped clean in two across the middle of
    the sole then :-/

I really liked the A/stars GP Plus[1] gloves, until I tried the Held
    ones.

[1] May have been the GP Pro. Whatever, they were the ones with the
    carbon not plastic bits.

My A/stars (your abbreviation - a bit hom, but it suits you) paddock
    jacket is great.

I find it amusing that you find something that I say or do "a bit hom".
I mean *you*, of all people.

I don't think they make them anymore, or I would. The great thing
about that particular jacket is that it's the only item of motorcycle
equipment I've seen where it could be worn as normal clothing and
    would not look silly.

I don't believe you've seen it. You might be referring to my Dianese

  17. I owned the Alpinestars boots I mentioend above in the late 1980s. Are
    yours of more recent vintage?

During the mid-to-late 80s, we [1] were selling a *lot* of their road
and racing boots - we were possibly one of the, if not *the* leading
stockist in the UK. In fact I owned two pairs of the same model of
off-road boots and they never gave any causde for complaint - just
like their road and racing boots never provided any warranty claims.

When Alpinstars switched from leather to Lorica, we dropped the brand
because we did not have confidence in the material (subsequently
    proven by laboratory test data).

[1] Swift Leathers, as has probably been mentioned before.

The Tech 4s I have are made from what appears to be a very good grade of
leather. Supple is not a word that was mentioned in the design brief,
but supple is not something you particularly want in an off-road boot.

I chose these on the advice of an ex-courier who despatched, did a world
tour by bike and then went instructing in the same pair of boots over a
period of four years. He'd had them resoled twice and crashed many times
in them, yet they had survived everything he'd thrown at them. They
    looked like shit mind.

    They would've been a little later - probably '92 - '93.
