Breaker bar at the ready....

There i was, breaker bar in hand, brand new 36mm socket & it was little more
    than cock tight :)

So, i have done my first chain, the link was odd, i was expecting it to have
some kind of end to flatten over properly, but i tooled it up & pushed the
link through & it kind of clicked into place on both pins.

I didn't do anything else as i thought i would ask here before mullering it
    up...

Anyway, i made a cracking paddock stand from two axle stands & apart from
getting degreaser on my cock end, it went quite smoothly.

So, is that it with the links, or do they need 'bending' over on the ends
    that came through?

You need to pein them over like a rivet or use a proper tool which
will fit into the centre hole and spread the soft part of the pin out
much the same as if you'd knocked **** out of it with a hammer and a
    punch.

You did put new 'O' rings on both sides didn't you?

    I'll knock **** out of it with a hammer & a punch too :)

It looks right nice & spangly too :)

You might find that easier to think than do, particularly if the wheel is on
    the bike.

Slightly premature I suspect. It's only 7/8ths done yet.

  6. But not so hard so it doesn't 'bend' around the pins anymore...

Do I detect a hint that the first attempt wasn't a complete success?

Ah. I'm not sure I will ever attempt a chain job on anything that can't
be run with just a split link. I'll probably throw the Voxan at Magnum
    when that eventually needs doing.

I've got a very effective tool for splitting chain, but it hasn't got a
    riveting mode.

Anything can be run with a split link surely?
Bikes were hitting 180mph at Bonneville in 1967 and I dont think
endless chains came in till the 80's?

    In communiqué
Well yes, but perhaps it's more a question of power applied through the
    chain rather than speed.

I'm not even sure you can even get split links for the size of chain
    used on the Voxan.

Still think I'll give it a miss. I did a rear sprocket change OK to gear
the Voxan down a tad, but, like tyre changes, I think I'd rather take
advantage of a ride in - ride out service when the time comes for a new
    chain.

They were ftting endless chains to big Japanese bikes (Z900s, GS
    Thous, etc) in the mid-1970s.

    Oh a whoosh I think.

I have a couple of regulars here killfiled because their posts are
inevitably tedious - the opposite of riveting, so to speak.
