Breakdown cover

We're a bit pissed off with the RAC, the have stitched up our renewal by
almost £50 this year. Ok I had a call out last year when the FJ leaked
fuel, but they didn't actually fix it, or recover the bike to the
garage. They simply hooked the breather pipes above the float chambers.

Anyway, I got home, so that matters not much in itself.

It means we lose all the no call out discount. Last year we paid £110,
this year they want £157. So I check, on their web site I can buy the
same policy as a new customer for £143. So how about **** off then.

So, it means we're looking for new cover for the bike and car. What's
    the current best out there?

I've checked Green Flag, and they can do the same cover for £127, the AA
    for £140.

We need joint cover for the car, and single cover for the bike.

I've got the All Bells and Whistles Green Flag cover through my
employer for bike/car myself & one other peep for £80 including their
    European cover.

I've only had to use it once when I needed to recover my bike after an
accident. Their local operator was quite speedy and didn't have a
problem with dumping the bike where it needed to go.

They made a mistake and invoiced me £43 a month later for a
"non-standard" recovery. I asked them what was non-standard about it
and they said it was a motorcycle. After a phone call they agreed the
error had been made by their call centre staff who dispatched a car
recovery vehicle instead of a motorcycle recovery vehicle and
    cancelled the invoice without quibble.

They acknowledged their error and I didn't even have to argue about
it. I'm not sure if they operate an "no claims bonus" style system
like the RAC, but for £80 for two drivers in whatever vehicle
including their 'home start' and european options it can't be bad.

What kind of cover does Auntie Carole provide with her insurance?

I'll save Bear the trouble - the RAC are 'kin twats. They left SWMBO left
stuck in the wilds on the A41 for about 4.5 hours.

They then rang me up and very aggressively berated me for not renewing
membership. Unfortunately the battery on my phone gave up as I was
explaining the facts of life to them very loudly and in great detail.

It's their loss as I've been a member for about 20 years and have paid top
dollar for 'comprehensive' cover. I get it with my bank account now . . . .

Righto, I'm with 1st Quote, who do offer a cover, but I've no idea who
    under-writes it.

Looks like Green Flag are becoming favourite.

Dunno, I'm not with them. It's almost looking like it could be more
economical to arrange seperate cover for the car and bike.

However, Green Flag is becoming favourite now.

Aye, we're about to top 10 years of cover, and with only a couple of
call outs in that time (nothing for at least 6 years).

I hadn't thought of the bank? Virgin Breakdown perhaps? :)

I was trying for ages to get cover for both the Trike and the Car,
none but RAC would do a 'Drivers' policy for me, and none of the
others I asked would cover the Trike on it's own as it is over 15
years old on the Reg book .

RAC quoted me £87 for any vehicle cover which wasn't just recovery to
a garage but they would also take me to where I was going or back home
    if I wanted.

Green Flag and Call Direct are the same company.

Yes, but we need joint cover, which bumps it to £157.

Indeed, they're not getting my renewal, whatever, and I guess the
alternatives are AA or Green Flag.

Yes, I used them too. I believe they turned into Green Flag.
Blimey, never knew there were that many. I've heard of Mondial, they do
    the dedicated BMW cover.

    Cheers.

I wouldn't bother with the AA now. They've undertaken a 'review',
cutting the number of staff they have available and with no guarantee
of when they will be able to reach you. They've 'made redundant' a
friends hubby because he was unwilling to meet the new terms and
conditions of his contract [1], any staff that have been made redundant
have had to sign a document stating that they will not say anything to
the press about what is going on.

If you make a call for the AA, don't expect them to 'attend within the
    hour' any more.

I'm now with Green Flag via my insurers, and the renewal for the AA in
    July won't be happening.

[1] A complicated thing, you know where they introduce T&C that doesn't
match your previous T&C as an employee, plus making sure they give you
all the shitty shifts and jobs, extra hours and no extra pay.
Basically they are employed to do X hours a week, they are *expected*
to do call-outs, etc, over and above the hours required, and with no
    extra pay.[2]

    [2] Allegedly, might I add ;o)

Carole Nash used to use the RAC for their free recovery. Despite having it
pointed out to them in words of one syllable that my BMW was a
mo-tor-cy-cle, their recovery wagon came out looking for a car and managed
to leave me languishing at the side of the M5 for about 7 hours.

Later, CN switched to Mondial, who pulled exactly the same trick on me when
the evil twin dropped a valve.

  18. No one has mentioned MAG Rescue. They charge £40 for a bike and I think £60
(although it oculd be £80 - I forget) for a six wheel policy. The policy is
vehicle specific regardless of who is driving.

Also MCN now run a scheme starting at £30 I think.

I've called on CN's rescue service twice this year, once with turbo and
the other with the outfit, and other than the dedicated motorcycle
recovery having to send (quite quickly) for a flatbed to deal with the
    outfit they've been very good.

They seem to use local operators rather than dedicated patrols.
