Eh? This never happens to me, and I /never/ move over for them.

A more significant view of the figures is that travelling roughly 10mph
faster in a modern vehicle uses up all the gains.

Have a look at the Highway Code

What our govt seem to fail to realise is that technology
has moved forward in leaps and bounds.
A Mk1 Cortina can stop much faster than the Highway Code says.

Why do I need to ride one? Simple maths gives proof enough. Obviously a bit
    beyond your abilities.
You think your response is useful?

Cane popped their head over the parapet saw what was going on and said
Nope nothing to do with MOTORbikes as I am reading this in
uk.rec.cycling have this vision of someone peddaling furiously to
get a PEDAL bike up to 150 mph

Now I am impressed, what maths equation do you use to find the stopping
    power of say, a blackbird?

Your not dead yet, therefore the bikers can't be that bad. So STFU with
    your whinging.

That would depend on where the blackbird hit you!

Every Mk1 Cortina I ever drove had absolutely shite brakes. I've driven
a fair few Morris Minors too, I learnt to drive in one and I've owned 3,
    and they were all worse.

5 years ago, and how many miles have you driven/ridden since? On bikes,
    in cars/vans/trucks?

Try that one again. Or I'll drop one on your patio from about 250m up while
    you're having a barbeque.

    cheers,

Not when the tests were done in the 1960s, when a 1200 Cortina was
fitted with drum brakes and granite compound crossply tyres. My argument
is that these tests were done back in the 60s and bear no relation to
modern conditions, therefore the NSL should be reviewed. There is no way
a Cortina Mk1 1200 would stop from 70mph in 60 yards, it is impossible.

I do not have a problem with the 30 and even the 20mph limits found in
residential areas, but have a big problem with the growing trend towards
declassifying NSL roads to 50 and 40mph limits when there is no evidence
    of accident blackspots.

A desk-pilot, I thought so. Maybe one day you'll learn that practical
experience knocks spots off sitting behind a desk looking at figures and
spouting on about them. Academia has its place, but it's not where you
need that 'seat of the pants' experience we are talking about here.

They can usually get through without my moving over (I drive in the middle
    of the lane).

Yep, and it's wankers on motorbikes with attitudes like that who, quite
frankly, deserve all they get from the unobservant drivers.

For a moment, with what seemed an equal arsehole play-acting behind my
boot, that I was sorely tempted to jam the anchors on my car... oops
mate, sorry about that, car in front braked...

He'd have been plastered over my boot, and probably in short order run
over by the car following him.

Just occasionally, motorcyclists with attitudes like yours would do well
to remember they *are* vulnerable road users - no I wouldn't wish that
to happen to a biker, but enough bikers prat about like that and the day
*will* come where a driver has enough and what starts as a 'scare the
wanker on the bike behaving like an arsehole' ends up with a red smear
    on the road.

26 years on the road this year, and ridden a bike through most of them.
I treat all car drivers as if they are blind/homicidal/wankers. I'm
    still alive.

I frequently filter at speed. I doubt that 30% of the cars I pass even
notice that I've gone past, let alone that I'm coming up on them. My
view is, get past them ASAP.
