Brake pads

After having the tyres fitted yesterday it transpired that my brake
pads need replacing, certainly before I venture over to France.

What's the recommended faves at the moment? Especially in the 'not too
    expensive but worth buying' department.

Would it be easier if I explained that I need to replace the pads all
round, but want something decent rather than kack, given the fact that
I am going to France at the end of next month, I owe the money back for
the tyres purchased yesterday and my finances are a bit strained at the
    moment?

So, I want something decent but fairly cheap (or recommendations on
places that sell decent but fairly cheap pads) rather than paying
through the nose for a set all round only for someone to inform me
after shelling out my hard-earned that I could've bought the same or
better for less had I shopped at whatever else store instead of where
    I'd gone.

TST quoted me ?80 to do them yesterday, but I can't afford to pay
someone to do it atm. Chances are I'll be back at TST at the w/e to
buy the pads off them, unless someone tells me that what they stock is
over-priced kack and not worth having (which isn't likely, really).

It's hardly rocket science, is it?

Why the boggle? Lesley wants to know what pads are decent VFM - bearing
in mind stopping power, life etc. Seems to me to be a reasonable
    question.

As she isn't racing the thing or riding it to the nth degree something
like Carbon Lorraine would be a waste of money so the normal Vesrah or
EBC budget ones would be the ones to go for, IMO.

IME, and to be honest it's mainly Brembos, the OE manufacturer is the
best choice for stopping and life. I can kill a pair of EBC in about
5000 miles, OE last about 7000.

If I go to the dealer they offer manufacturers by default. If I go to
Sopers in Leigh they sell me EBC if I just ask for pads and if I decide
to keep my hands clean and hand the job over to Swifty, they use pads of
some sort. They all seem to work.

Carbone Lorraine do a wider range of pads than most people realise. Hein
Gericke's own brand of sintered pads are made by CL, and the packaging
shows this too. I've heard good things about them.

Vesrah are very good for the money, and as you know, I wouldn't touch
    EBC HHs with a bargepole.

If it's TST in Risley then pop over and see me with the new pads for
fitting. I used EBC HH pads, and they seemed ok. Can't remember what
the price was like in comparison to everything else though, nor do I
know what the current flavour of the month is.

Drop me a mail and we'll sort something out.

I've got those Carbone Lorraine ones in my Bandit at the moment. Seem to
do ok in the wet and dry.
Bloody EBC HHs, they're a lot thinner than the standard pads for my
Bandit. Make the pistons stick out a lot more they did.

Not in my experience. Forever more will I be vigilent when asking for
    new pads.

The last bunch I trusted my bike with swapped HH for non-HH, then
didn't point this out. I found out when the brakes overheated on a
    particularly twisty section of road.

Thanks, ESB Motors, Leigh. Suzuki saw fit to put HH pads on an SV -
why didn't you? Rider Power Number One Dealer my arse.

As a company Vesrah are very similar to Unipart, in as much as they buy
in OEM parts from the original manufacturers and then package them and
sell on under their own brand name. As you probably know, Suzuki don't
make their own brake calipers, oil filters, air filters etc nor do
Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Honda. Vesrah buy pads etc from Nissin, Tokico and
Sumitomo and others and sell them as their own.

I've seen Vesrah CBR600 pads with Honda OE part numbers printed on the
    back of them.

Never had a brake overheat, except for a seized one on a gpz550. Then
again I don't set out to stress mine overmuch.

Too right. There's few folk I actively dislike, but they're firmly in

Gosh, that's very good of you Chris. I can do them myself (they
probably thought, being a burd like, that I'd need them doing for me),
but the option of two of us doing it and perhaps going for a wee jaunt
afterwards, just to make sure they work, like, is something I quite
    fancy.
I will do, young sir )

Just the sort of answer I was looking for, from someone with a clue,
too. I just might have to pop into HG this week then when I get paid,
    and get something *not* EBC.

    Cheers, Loz.

There's nowt wrong with EBC HH pads.

Colonel Tupperware had them on his Gay White Whale when he went
sailing past us waiting at the roundabout
    ......................................................as you were then!
