On Thu, 11 Aug 2005 19:28:18 +0100, Err, no. They (I) haven't. Maybe it's just my 'I prefer to make a proper fire' thing, but I maintain that BBQs started with petrol or firelighters always taint their food have a slightly unpleasant oily smell/taste. It's just that so many people are embarrassed for you. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) \`\ | /`/ GSX-R1000K3 `\\ | //' BOTAFOT#3, SbS#2, UKRMMA#13, DFV#8, SKA#2 `\|/` `
As Dyson pointed out when he moved production to China: all he's doing is exporting the unskilled cheap labour. The profits and added value come back to the UK. This allows us to maintain our service industries and keep people employed in jobs which pay more because they have more value than clipping bits of vacuum cleaner together. You might like to consider that right now, our population is at an all-time high, our unemployment is near a historic low (a million or so? Out of over 60 million inhabitants) and yet manufacturing industry accounts for, IIRC, a mere 17% of our GDP. Buying British because the product is better, in some way, or because you have ethical objections to the country where it's made or that country's policies, is fine. Buying Brit "just because" is lunacy. For a start, it was this attitude that helped destroy British Leyland. They had no incentive to produce decent cars when the blind public would buy any old crap.
Guilty as charged. Made a helluva mess of The Doctor's plants.[/QUOTE] And only then did the _real_ fireworks start, eh? -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) \`\ | /`/ GSX-R1000K3 `\\ | //' BOTAFOT#3, SbS#2, UKRMMA#13, DFV#8, SKA#2 `\|/` `
message and, I am reliably informed, the value of Britain's exports is higher now than ever before! 'Hog
The only valid reason for not qualifying an opinion that I would accept is that something is so obvious that the effort spent elucidating the position seems ridiculous. That's not the case here. If Beav offers up an opinion and refuses to explain it, especially in such childish terms, then it's not surprising if some people think less of him. I also don't see where a rattle was thrown.
You're quite right, and I realised it at the time but couldn't be bothered to go back and change it. It would have been better if I'd said something like " ... I'll give you an opportunity to make yourself look an even bigger ass".
I tried telling them that at cornwall but they wouldn't listen. Well they wouldn't wait. All rush, rush, rush and bung the flaming stuff on.
You might prefer to buy British out of love for your country, xenophobia, concern about the environmental effects of transportation, a concern for Britain's financial stability, any number of reasons. And then you might feel inclined to discuss the point at which you draw the line, if any, when the goods are too expensive or shoddily inferior and whether you feel restricted in terms of it being a British company operating overseas or a foreign company over here using Britain's workforce, such as it is. It might not *need* explaining- and you don't *have* to- but there's no harm in explaining your position, is there? I mean, if it's some point of principle that you feel strongly about, why not have a discussion about it? Er there were at least 2 posts of silliness from you before Champ called you a wanker. You could easily have gone in any direction other than attempt to be irritating, including encouraging other people to follow what you see as the correct course of action. And yes it did read like you didn't actually have the strength of your convictions. Of course it bothers you, you twat. You've just spent time trying to justify yourself in far more words than you could have originally explained your position in what could have been a useful debate. Pulling a DGAF out of the hat at this stage is just silly. Yes, it's all a clique conspiracy. Much easier to believe that than to take responsiblity for your own incompetance in a public forum.
I don't think I've talked to any yet. Plenty of Chinese, Russians, Thai and Kiwis. I think they're all hiding.
Whereabouts in Aus are you? If it's Sydney, take the ferry over the bay to Manly this weekend and you'll see a lot more Aussies. It's also a nice chilled out spot, I think you'll like it.
Cheers but I have plans already. And I don't like the sound of "Manly" one little bit in the gay capital of the world.
Sure it's a gay sounding name, but it's actually a very nice location. I really liked Sydney, at least once I got myself out of the legoland that is Darling Harbour. I suspect you'll enjoy your stay wherever you end up.
I've already ended up. I have an aparetment in Bondi Junction. After that, I'll decide whether I want to live by the sea or not, maybe in Coogee.
Not that you'll believe it coming from me but Manly is a very nice spot to relax. Well worth the ferry trip.
