I wonder if the Indonesians will remember Howard's threat of a
"preemptive strike" against terrorists in Indonesia?
Maybe they'll have one against the Oz terrorists posting envelopes of
biologically hazardous materials to their embassy in Canberra?

taken care of by the boys inside' :)

How about based on the fact that the court doesn't accept "reasonable
doubt" as a principle... a principle that should be universal in any
    fair court system.

One could argue that the court followed the letter of indonesian law...
and still doesn't run very well because the system limits it's performance.

I guess I could have been clearer.

I agree, it probably wouldnt have any effect, but in the unlikely event
that a widespread boycott took off, it wouldn't help Corby.

    Moike

(Hell, if the Bali Bomb didn't stop Aussies going there........)

If their justice system is impartial it shouldn't hurt her either*
Stopped a lot of people actually, the tourist numbers are still down on
pre bombing. Stopped me, I'd never visited Bali and was vaguely thinking
it might be OK for a cheap short break around about that time. The only
way I'd set foot on Indonesian or Malaysian soil now is for work reasons
    and only under duress.

    JL
*but then I don't actually think their justice system is impartial, I
think there's enough evidence to suggest that Indonesia is in the top 50
most corrupt nations (possibly even top 10), and hence impartiality in
an Indonesian court requires a large amount of bakeesh. (sp?)

I really enjoyed Thailand, prices are ludicrously low, the food is
great, the little stepthrough Hondas are fun and the people are
friendly. Tourism is at an all-time low because of the tsunami,
even in places not affected ...

I've never had a job that was that important to me. Indonesia and
the USA are two places that I'll never set foot in again in this
lifetime. (Never been to the US, see no reason to start taking
    those kinds of risks now.)

Ah well, I guess we have a different outlook then. You probably get more
riding time than I do too :)

Yup. I've been down the route of working for assorted investment
banks, travelling the world, making heaps of money, being in a
permenently stressed-out-of-my-skull state. Got the t-shirt.

Just how bad it was didn't really sink in until a bunch of us
who had all recently departed from Credit Suisse were discussing
what we'd left over a meal in a restaurant somewhere. While we
were used to the day to day horrors of working there, each and
every one of our partners sat in an utterly stunned silence
throughout the whole meal. SWMBO said to me later "I knew you
were stressed, but I had no idea it was that bad".

I left the financial industry quite completely convinced that
it is an industry that is a blight and a drain on society, and
one that makes absolutely no contribution to society whatsoever.

As for international business travel, that's really really
interesting and exciting. The first two times. After that, its
harder work than any other kind of work I've done. I'm good at
it, but I don't like it. They can keep it. (Says he who is going
to fucking China next month for work :-/ )

I probably *take* more riding time than you do! Its important. :)

My current income is less than a quarter of what Credit Suisse
First Boston paid me. I'm at *least* four times happier, if not
more. I'm probably going to live a lot longer as a result of
    getting out of there too!

There are a lot of really important things in life. Money sure
as hell ain't one of them!

    Beer mate?
