    Bounce,bounce etc.

Well thats the rear shock gone then. Fortunately I have a new one in the
garage. What I don't have is any axle stands or any rafters to hang the rear
of the bike from in order to change the shock.

I'm thinking 2 stacks of bricks with a lump of wood between them.

Anyone get a more elegant idea?

H'mm, bricks and wood, I can hear the curses and swear words already as
    the bike topples off them.

A tenner a set? well worth it for the piece of mind.

Wrap the bricks in leftover Christmas tree paper and use wood dye and
    varnish on the wood.

    Thanks for the offers ).

Managed to sort it by putting a jack on the frame behind the engine and
getting a volunteer from the audience to hold the bike steady. No linkage on
the hornet so two bolts to undo, bung in the new one, job sorted. One of
those rare jobs that stays uncomplicated.

More festive than elegant I feel. In the end I just wore full evening dress
    whilst twirling the spanners.

You've got style, a groovy style, but do you got a car that just won't stop?

Something in wrought iron with lots of swirly bits and a nice spiderweb
of fine wires holding it fast against the walls of the garage.
