Holiday-makers returning to Melbourne have been diverted off the Great
Ocean Road due to a massive boulder near Lorne.

Victoria Police say a minor landslip dislodged the boulder, sending it
crashing onto the road between Big Hill and Eastern View.

"Only one lane is open at this stage, that's the lane heading towards
Lorne," Senior Constable Mia Paterson said.

Traffic has been diverted onto Deans Marsh Road to and from Lorne.

Police said it was not known how long it would take to move the
    boulder.

Heavy traffic has also caused delays for holiday-makers returning from
New Year's Eve celebrations at Phillip Island, south-east of
    Melbourne.

"Traffic on the Phillip Island Tourist Road and Back Beach Road is
banked back four kilometres to Cowes," Snr Const Patterson said.
