Bought my commuter/town hack

  1. In view of the move from Tunbridge Wells up to London and the need for a
    small city bike.

Titter ye not. I've owned one of these things before, and they're
cracking little bikes. 80mph, 70-75mpg, and this one is low miles and
with some useful accessories and six months' tax and ticket.

Pigging long way to Torquay, thobut.

    Brill bike.
I've got a trailer sitting here if it's any use, your very welcome to borrow
    it if the need arises.
But I'm not going anywhere near Torquay till the new year tho', I could
collect it then if you can wait?

  4. Heh. Well, train is £26 and then ride it back. Unless the weather's
shite, in which case, car & trailer.

Trouble is, trying to find a decent 250cc bike for under a monkey is
    next to impossible.

If it were me, I'd look for an SV650 or some such (not for that money,
    natch).

  6. Yeah, but I've got loads of bikes sort of like that. I just want a cheap
economical town hack that'll bounce when I drop it.

  10. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Champ
To really capture the essence of the "riding a stupidly small motorcycle
a long way in shit weather" experience, I propose that The Doctor
    should:

    A) Impose a total nookie-ban with immediate effect

    and

    B) Put TOG on a promise when he gets back from Torquay.

  11. I'll probably take the trailer and the car, to be honest.

If you go down by train, catch a Penzance from Paddington as they still
have full silver service restaurant cars (M-F) (change at Newton Abbot
for Torquay). You don't need a first class ticket if you're eating.
Food costs about the same as a motorway services but is infinitely better.

    Fucking civilised way to travel.

That finished in the early/mid 90s - about the time of run up to
privatisation (IIRC). Part of the problem was the end of loco hauled and
the demise of the Guard's van.

Won't the driver mind if you take his seat?

Always felt it was a shame when they got rid of the nice old slam door
stuff where you could sit at the front of the front carriage and look out
at where you were going. And make 'bunny ears' behind the driver
whenever a train was coming the other way.

The problem is that when most old gimmers go to Torquay, they stay there
for the rest of their days. We might never see him again.

I'd offer to bring the thing up in my van, but I won't be in London until
    mid December.
