aye. It goes well, though once or twice the clutch slipped, not under
load exactly, but being in too low a gear and then going over a bump in
the road caused an short unexpected rise in revs.

Also very frugal: did 68 fairly enthusiastic miles on 4.66l of fuel,
which is over 66mpg, so pretty impressive.

When you got to High Beech (or wherever), did you have naked women
    approaching you, demanding sex?
    Wonder what the tank-range is.

Ah. I suspect there may be issues on Saturday morning.

IIRC, the CBX does around 25mpg.

Trying to keep up with you and Simon, it'll probably be into the high
    teens.

Oh, well, it's only 150 miles from Coquelles, only need one stop.

    that's crap.
well, 150 miles is the motorway route, I'm not intending to go that
    way.

Don't have a route planned yet, though - do you?

unfortunately not, but I was there early (10:45 or so) and there
    weren't many people about.
Spec says 14l, so theoretically something like just over 200 miles,
which isn't bad at all. This was A and B roads hooning, lots of up and
down changes; I suspect at a more steady pace on fast-ish A roads, it'd
    be even better.

The spec also says 185kg, but it feels far lighter than that.

Did you ever notice anything odd about the clutch yourself?

I imagine that it can be tempted up into the thirties, with prudence.
Just printed one off ViaMichelin, but it refuses to avoid motorways
    completely.

I shall have a play with Mapsource.

That's odd. Because - and I'm sure Ace will confirm this about his
time as owner - it happened *all* the time to me.
When riding it back to Basel, I think I stopped about every 120-ish
miles. I wanted to err on the side of caution, having forgotten to
ask Bruce the tank capacity (and wanting to take advantage of the
    aforementioned naked women).
It surged a little about 6750rpm. I thought it was the carbs, though.

  11. Blimey. I average about 50-55mpg on mine, but that's generally cruising
it at 80+. Worst I've ever got is 42mpg. The best is about 60.
This is partly because it's so compact. It's not a light bike, but it is
very small. The GPZ900R managed much the same trick, actually.

it's a bloody good trick, because it even feels light when pushing it
    around.

  13. You're right. One of these days I must put the thing on a weighbridge to
see what it really does mass. The perceived wisdom (and the stats) says
it's the same as an early GSXR750, but like you say, it feels a damn
    sight lighter.

Out of interest, what sort of tank range do you get on yours?

I think the problem yesterday was with the lack of naked women, rather
    than anything else.

I'll see what I can come up with; it's not so much that the 400 four is
not motorway compatible (it is, sort of, will sit at 80-90 easily) it's
just I find motorway biking to be horrendously boring.

  17. Usually about 125-130 miles to reserve, or thereabouts.

Worst ever was 105. This tankful will be less because I forgot to shut
off the fuel, and it's got the usual 400 Four leaky carb syndrome.

Wept a pint or more of fuel onto the tarmac in our office car park.
Copincidentally, where I park is "Smokers' Corner" and one of them came
hot-footing it to alert me before he blew himself up. :)

    Oh, I concur, old bean.

I was just thinking that we don't want to be overdoing the braking for
junctions bit, seeing as how haven't decent set of brakes between us.

Judicious spacing of the convoy may be in order.

Can't you just add some kind of drag-net to the last bike in
the convoy? That way you can empty it at every petrol stop and
sort out the bits it picked up.
