No rush, no rush. Look, 24-hour race, right? He won't be riding for more
than eight of those hours. That leaves <removes socks> 16. Every twenty
    minutes for 16 hours, that's... <removes remaining clothes> 48
opportunities to abuse him. Plenty to go round. In fact...

Auction alert! All proceeds to Team-UKRM. 47[1] opportunities to beat

Aha! You intend to arouse Champ by presenting yourself wholly naked.

I see it all now: Champ goes out and establishes new lap record. He is not
    racing.

    He is running away.

My father, due to an enormous oversight on his part, was a tad more
involved in that actual bit of the fighting that went on during the war.

According to him, unless you were a merkin or a jock, you didn't need
any help staying awake. The mental images of the sea on fire and men
burning and screaming and shit gained from previous skirmishes with
German submarines was enough to keep the whole crew in a state of
heightened awareness for the whole trip.

Of course it was common practice for sailors to save their rum ration
anyway they could so that every three or four days they were guaranteed
a period off total unconsciousness, which might have helped.

Stressful I think you could describe it. Odd how that generation
haven't sued anybody over it all yet though innit?

I've got two 500W floodlights on a tripod I could make work, if you
    like. They're pretty well balanced.

    That too.

As close to full-on daylight as you can get, apparently. Bright halogens
might work ok, given there's plenty of lumens bouncing around the
eyeball from them, but a lower wattage source of daylight fluoros would
    work just as well.

If you're in need of bright lights for a wake-up call, I can lay
my hands on a SAD lightbox if required.

Won't be able to deliver it myself, obv.

  17. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Mick Whittingham
Good point. The light jolt treatment could be given as the rider wakes
up, or at least half an hour before he's jumping on the bike, allowing
time for night vision to re-establish.
