Your earlier commments didn't create a feeling that you had definitively
    done it.

Anyway, I still don't see why, over a 24 hour period, you can just just
accelerate a little less hard and change gear earlier - how does (genuine
question) 5 seconds slower a lap over 24 hours compare to the potential
    stops saved?

Call the average Team UKRM lap 1'20".

In 60 minutes that equates to 45 laps.

A standard fuel-only stop, which is four out of five in a 6-hour race
adds ~30 seconds to a lap.

Taking your suggestion to extend lap times to 1'25"; that would drop
the number of laps per hour to 42. That puts us three laps down on
standard. In six hours that is eighteen laps and we might save one
fuel stop of ~30 seconds or about half a lap. 17.5 laps down. Hmm.

Even if we added a minute by stopping for fuel, we're better off doing
    that.

To give you a comparison, towards the end of the last round, the Team
Kawasaki Newcastle bike was catching Alex. The combined psychic
output of the team on the pit wall inspired TKW to pit for fuel
immediately after their rider passed Alex. It was only for a splash
and dash, but they made a right meal (stationary for about a minute)
of it and about ten laps later when the race ended TKW were almost
exactly a lap down on us.

Apart from anything else, no matter how well-intentioned, you cannot
stop a racer racing. In the heat of a dice, the rider *will* rev the
bike out and push as hard as he dares. Then we're looking at a
running-out-of-fuel scenario. I reckon it best to maintain the status
quo and pit near enough on the hour each time for rider change and
fuel. Only if we had the capacity to run for 90 minutes at full race
speeds without fuelling would it make sense to change the schedule.

    ICBW, of course.

This is also a very important point. The whole point of racing is,
er, to race. Now, I appreciate there's a difference between going
*absolutely* flat out, and running a conistent pace, but that
difference is likely to be 1 second a lap, not 5, and will make little
difference to fuel consumption. (And anyway, you can't run on the
ragged edge for a whole race - the risk of a crash is too high). But,
running 5 seconds off the pace means you'll just be overtaken by
everyone, everywhere, and really isn't any fun. And fun is what we do
    it for.

And another eight kilos is only a ~3% weight increase - would that
automatically incur a 3% time penalty? Even if it did, it'd only be
for the first few laps - say 15 laps at an extra 4 seconds a lap,
equating to 1 minute per 90 minutes... oh, about what you would save
with 2/3 the number of pitstops...

In any event, all you need to do is get the riders to only eat what
they need to live[1] and they'll quickly lose more than that.

I'm surprised you managed even a little grin there, with your habitual
"drop all available ballast" practices which occur regularly, just
before practice. Err ... as it were.

ISTM that the other teams are likely to be having some very similar

about it but analysing to death can't hurt any.

Nah, **** that. What you need is a leaf out of the LNER's book and have
a scoop under the bike that ploughs into a trough of petrol on the back
