BOSM - shall I bring a kite?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Doesnotcompute, Apr 7, 2004.

  1. Just a thought, given the weekend is a long one, and the weather looks
reasonable - does anybody fancy having a play with some large kites?

If so, I'll bring them along - only thing we need to do then is find a
large park area / friendly farmers field that's not surrounded by trees.

Could provide some light entertainment, sillyness and photo
opportunites. Oh, and a chance for some of the lighter wieght amongst
    you to get airborne!

    <me, me, me, I love big kites>

This means I have to turn up at some point then?
    Lots of trees about though.
<nods> This is why I love big kites.

You mean like carsington water, about a mile away?

We might just see somebody take off if the wind gets up. :)

  7. assuming that's not a lake, then yes, possibly.
I also thought about a quick run from Oulton to Southport - the beach
    there is perfect.

If I bring the largest kite (I won't) someone like Loz would take off in
    a mere breeze!

It's a resevoir, a huge one, used for boating.. There's lots of grassy
parkland to the side of it.

Far too fucking easy. Try it with a four foot Coyne kite made out of
balsa and polyester tissue (and the tiniest smidgen of carbon and kevlar

Do you use them for kite buggying or similar, or just getting dragged across
fields on your arse? Just curious, 'cos I've been known to indulge in a bit
    of kitesurfing.

    oooh *huge* kites there then!
I thought my 4 and 8 msq kites were big until I saw a surfer with a 14!

Ooo - I used to go kite flying. Still got two kites in the garage
somewhere - one plastic (the first one) and a fabric one (the second
one). They were steerable and everything, but it sounds like yours will
    be much more impressive.

My biggest is a 16msq (actual rather than projected - dunno how yours are
measured). Means I can get out on the water in 10mph winds. Bloody scary
when you get big gusts coming through though.

Have you read 'The wasp Factory' ?

I've always felt uneasy about large kites since reading that :-/
