A mate works for Derbyshire police and, apparently, they've told the local
press that the'll be starting another one of their 'clampdowns' this
    weekend.

So if you are heading to the BOSM, or just riding through Derbyshie this
weekend, be very aware that most of the roads you may want to play on will
have white transit vans with cameras in them just where you least want to
    meet them.....

Further on that theme, TVP (Thames Valley Police) have invested in,
amongst other means of apprehending speed demons, a new camera bike.
It appears to be a lightly-marked up, but basically white Pan Euro
with a top box. SOP is for the rider to pick his spot, dismount, set
up his camera on a monopod behind the bike and aim over the seat.

The nasty bit comes next: they will use this (and the other two
simialr bikes) on roads where it would be dangerous/obvious to park a
camera van. They intend to spend the Summer squirreled away on
country roads where motorcyclists are likely to open the throttle.
They will be targeting motorcyclists specifically.

So when you're blatting down a back road and see a Pan parked in a
gateway, rider behind the bike - it may be TVP on the pull.

It is. Perhaps the answer is to set up in a similar fashion with a
high-powered sniper's rifle and wait for passing police vehicles...

  5. If it takes pics form the front then it won't catch a plate. If it
takes pics from behind they you'll see it as you approach.

    Where's the fun in that?

Shotguns at short range, I say.

    struggled to ejaculate:
The camera seems to be mounted on a monopod, which can easily be
swivelled to catch the plate as you pass. Intentionally, I assume.

The very act of targeting motorcyclists specifically would suggest
that they have thought of the plate capture difficulty - not to
mention the likelihood of another plod bike/traffic car parked in a
gateway a bit further down the road.

I've often had similar thoughts regarding police helicopters and stinger
missiles. I bet that'd make them think twice about swanning around the
countryside burning up tax payers money in the what must be one of the
most expensive ways possible to police the roads FFS.

emerged from their own little world to say
Not always. The Powys Division of Revenue Collectors has started to park
their vans up the forest access tracks on the A470/A479 Builth Wells to
Crickhowell road. The shrubbery means you can't see the fuckers as you
    approach.

Pip emerged from their own little world to say
Brunstrom introduced a camera-Pan last year specifically for use in the new
speed limits along the A5 in Snowdonia. The vans were too wide to fit in
the spaces along the roads in some of the villages earmarked for maximum
income. Consequently, they often protruded into the road. This would cause
the traffic to back up and eliminated any possibility of revenue
    collection.

Of course, it was all done in the interests of safety.

  14. Unlike you I wouldn't be carrying on. I'd find a way to f**k off back
the way I came without showing the camera my plate.

Other than that top job, well batted.

    struggled to ejaculate:
Just how do you intend to do that, then?

Assuming you're on a rural A-road, blatting down a straight, when you
spot a Pan in a gateway. By the time you register the potential,
you're probably too close to stop. If you do stop - what then,
    genius?
Bat your way further into the hole you're digging, why don't you.

So the copper will turn around and read you rplate then do you.

Trust me, I've got three points to prove it doesn't matter if the
camera is facing the front of your bike.

How do you reckon they'd react to you going past in first, or even
neutral? If only a chip was available to make your engine play music
    (a-la that minardi(?) thing).

Bit of a pointless ****-you, but it does appeal.
