Hey! Maybe I can come along to this, and show some of you how to have
    fun without speeding?

    Where and when is it?

I'm setting off from South-East Kent on the Saturday. Folkestone
(Eurotunnel terminal) is about 6 miles from me.

Ardennes? That is (approx.) where I am living! So yes, I am going through
    there.

But I will take the motorway (or Autobahn or Autoroute whatever name you
choose for it), since otherwise it will take forever to reach Calais by
rural roads - although these roads ARE nice in the Ardennes!

I was planning to either go Aachen - Brussels - Calais or Aachen - Lille -
    Calais.

Why do you ask? Are you going along there, too?

That is close. If you are going anyway, and I am not holding you off
anything, do you mind if I join in?
What time did you have in mind as departure? The Euroshuttle runs all night
it seems, so I can be "there" at whatever time suits you.

    Cheers

The Black Horse in Hulland Ward (Derby) is 215 miles from the
Eurotunnel terminal. It's all motorway (70mph road) apart from the
last 20 miles and it normally takes me 4 hours to get there as I do
the journey in 100 mile chunks/rest stops and then get really, really,
    really lost at the end.

While lost at the end I generally slow down and wait for a bike to
overtake me and then follow it. The only problem with this is not all
bikes travel towards Hulland Ward but at least it's entertaining when
one turns up in someone elses driveway and try to explain why one is
    there.

I usually start off at around 09:00 UK Time, but I've no problem with
leaving later if you wish to travel with me.

Let me know when you'll be arriving in England (UK Time) closer to the
time and we can arrange for an easy place to meet.

There are much nicer routes than the motorway once you're round the M25
    - but they would add a bit of time to your journey.

I guess if it's not the journey but the destination then that's a good
route, but if it's about seeing some of the UK, experiencing some of
the roads (Ralf, not you :) ) then I would say the motorway is going to
be disappointing - especially for a German! :)

While I'm in no way in fear of them, I don't think a motorway is any
place for a bike but I will be travelling that way unless anyone
wishes to accompany Mr. German, SeanH and myself to show us a
    different route.

Do a google - there have been various suggestions on routes from
various parts that you could consider using. [1]

Otherwise dig out the map and have a look.

[1] you could, for instance take the A41, then the A413, do a FOT then
carry up the (equally dull as the motorway) A5 or do something
    different.

DanL and I did a nice route to the EOSM that you could join [2] easily
off the M40 which took in some really nice roads and very little
    drudgery.

[2] but not join me - I'm an anti-social cnut when it comes to riding
    my bike :)
