So the ukrm B/EOSM, which started as a "turn up on your bike with a
tent" kind of do, is evolving into a "stay in a hotel and get a taxi to
    the pub" type thing?

Whilst I've never attended an B/EOSM, that does seem kind of sad.

Now that I won't argue against.

Oh, I know. If I'd ever got my arse round to attending, that would
    have been my preference.
Sure, but it seems to me that then changes the ethos of what (I
    imagine) the *OSMs are about.

    Still, it's probably just me...

The OSMs used to be about a bunch of people in their mid 30s meeting up
at a pub for a pissup. Now it's about a bunch of people in their mid 40s
meeting up at a pub for a pissup.

Hardly surprising if the level of grumbling about bad backs has
    increased.

Modern yoof - ha! This mildly arthritic old gimmer made it there (and
back!) to a not particularly dry and warm BOSM on a sports 125 carrying
camping gear. Only 70 miles TBF. In fact, next time I could use a
    rucksack and my bus pass.

The Dagos attended an event on a 60 seat bus. Bear in mind goal #1 was
    getting pissed.

Then why the holy **** are you spouting about something you know
    nothing about !
Or not turning up at all, you bunch of lightweights.

It's gone from bad weather riding to 'won't ride in blazing sunsine'
    now !

    No, it didn't.
    I doubt it.
Given you've never attended an B/EOSM, that does seem kind of
    two-faced.

Lots of people camp. It happens to put some people off. Now there is a
    viable cheap alternative.

Surely attendance is no barrier to having in opinion? This is ukrm
    after all!

I've done many years of the biking and camping thing, and now it's no
longer for me although I used to thoroughly enjoy it. A lot of people
still do enjoy it and I would have thought that the camping is a big
part of what makes the *OSMs what they are. Obviously not.

Certainly the most amusing bits of the reports over the years are in
    the post-pub, pre-fall over times.

    <bites>

I didn't go because I'd just got back from a 2200 mile trip through sun,
wind and rain on the thou and figured V might want me around for a
    weekend.

What mode of transport did you take, o hardy traveller?

Camping is the bit that makes an OSM a fairly grim experience. I'd
rather have a pissup at someone's house with a sofa or carpeted floor to
sleep on, any day of the week.

    Oh, sure.

But my point was that whilst that option and using a hotel &
taxi/mini-bus are valid ones for piss-ups in general, it doesn't
exactly make them what I thought an OSM was all about.[1]

But I'll shut up on the subject now.

[1] in that it was a ride up to and sleep at specifically the Black
    Horse at Hulland Ward.
