OFFS. Look, I'll sling Fr Jack's Chimay tent in the chair and you can use
    that, okay?

Bear emerged from their own little world to say
I don't think so. Even if I had more hp I don't think I'd stay with
Champ for longer than the time he was being charitable. On a faster bike
I might be able to pull away from Verds as I *can* ride fast and keep up
with or outrun most people for short spells. He'd soon catch up because,
IMO, as I'm fat & unfit I start to change things as I tire. Usually what
I start doing first is dispense with changing gear. The GS happily chugs
around the corners but a lot slower. It's one of the characteristics of
    the bike that I like.

    <eulogy to the GS>
I foresaw being made redundant in 2002 and squirrelled away quite a bit
of cash. Plus I had the equivalent of 2 years salary as a redundancy
payout. So, despite giving the impression of an impoverished student[1],
I could quite easily buy whatever bike I wanted. It's a testament to the
general all round good egg nature of the GS that I have not changed it.
I've been riding bikes for 12 years and I've never had a bike longer
than 2 years. I bought the GS in April 2001.

    [1] it's in the T&Cs

I hadn't heard them referred to as daps before I lived in Bristol. In
school, they were referred to as guttees.

I have heard the word dap used as a verb...
    I don't.

That pretty much sums it up. I ride very smoothly in normal mode. When
dapping on a bit it all becomes a bit ragged but rarely life threatening.
In the unlikely event that I get a much faster bike then some proper
training would probably be in order.

I used it as a verb in a post a few minutes ago - "dapping on a bit" i.e.
GLF. It is in common useage amongst those that speak English in the Forest
    of Dean.

It's been on the list of things to organise. However time constraints [0]
and logistics[1] mean that I have not got around to it.

I have an option to share a house with a garage should I get funding for a
postgrad course. This will mean that I can have access to the bike more
often and maybe fit some training around my academic timetable. The other
*wince* bonus is that this house is 4 miles from the university so I could
get that bicycle from the back of mum's garage and actually use the journey
    to improve my fitness.

    maintaining an unhealthy alcohol intake
[1] for security the bike is in my mum's garage 30 miles from Cardiff

Ummm, nor did I. We lived in a 4 bed detached in Kendal Road, the posh

    Yeah, I spotted that.
I've also heard it used in a "run up the stairs with" context. Like, "Could
you dap this up to the cash office?"

    You're fucking psychic, you are.

I mean, I know you wrote that earlier, but I only just read it.
