The only work that I know of that describes the childhood of Jesus is the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which is a very heretical work (Christians, understandably, have issues with a "gospel" that describes how young Jesus performs miracles for fun and kills people who piss him off). TBH it's not really taken very seriously even by non-christian scholars. I always have problems with the early church trying to keep things quiet, because it never sounds very feasible. The early church was a fragment body of hundreds of small churches with no clear heirarchy or even a fully coherent belief system.
