Ok, i'm bored of my bike after only three months, not because it isn't
fast or powerfull enough for me but because it whines all the time,
whines in first, whines in second, whines in 3rd at 30mph. I was saving
for a car at about £9,000

But now I'm thinking about getting a gixxer with the trade in. I know
the obvious answers about you're not ready, you can't touch 1% of it's
capabilities, but apart from that I see learners on American boards
buying them as their first bike, and I'm fed up of shifting mid corner
to maintain speed up a gradient.

It's getting annoying trying to let it whine (planning appropriate
speed and gear) in each gear so I have enough left for an overtake even
with gliding past as recommended on this group, and the hunger for the
view which helped a fucking lot TBH.

Ok basically I slow down to 30 when no traffic behind me in a national
just to enjoy the acceleration on the twisty bits which is all of
surrey round Guildford, then join the ? to get 12?mph so far round
Petworth (that flat straight bit after the roundabout with mile view
    and hidden dips).

Anyway it's not the speed I enjoy it's the acceleration and the corners
so would this be a good idea and is the gixxer capable of touring?.

Ok I am absolutley not trying to appear a good rider or anything
remotely close but I've been to 120+ (which my grandmother could do on
the parts I did) and it feels boring, which makes it fucking dangerous.
I just enjoy the under 100mph parts and want more power band.

    err yeah

Really? Whines in 3rd at 30mph? Are you sure it's not your pillion whining
    at you to speed up?
Which gixxer are you on about? 600/750/1000?
I've had the 750 and it disguises its speed well - you don't realise how
fast your going until you look at the speedo.
Find some tighter corners then - the Fazer should be good fun to throw
around - even if it's not a sprotsbike.
Are you using the upper reaches of the rev-range?
You might get more kicks (for less bucks) with a twin.

p.s. that whining is easily cured with ear-plugs.

    Biffa Bacon says...
Or my old 1380 A series Mini Cooper S with straight cut drop gears and
    knackered diff[1].

[1] Which finally exploded and sent shrapnel through the bulkhead and
into the back seat, destroying the engine and gearbox in the process.

    Most of the 600s I've had, have a whine about them - it's a 4 pot modern
Japanese bike transmission thing if I'm not mistaken, as the CBR1000 I've
just bought does it, as did the Fazer I sold to help pay for it.

Main thing is, the Fazer had rather a fruity exhaust on it... so any, par
for the course, whine that had, was drowned out by that - it was a Wolf end
can, with a bolt in BSAU approved baffle, in case you were wondering.

That aside... why does it bother you?

I'm normally concentrating on the road ahead enough to not be that fussed by
anything as trivial as the sound a bike is continuing to make, the same as
when I test rode it, before deciding it was for me...

Many years ago, I was given a bottle of Black Tower as a prize for
something at work - that was an irritating wine.

Exactly the reason my first bike is a firestorm, not a widowmaker
    handles great and is cheap.

  15. I had one exactly the same. Cut it's value in half when I took the
genuine 1275 Cooper S lump out and put a horribly over-specced 1380 in.
    Still, it was rather fun.

I had the 1380 lump in my mg metro as a kid was a wonderfull lump but i
    went through 6 gearboxes.
My dear old mom wasnt happy as I couldnt afford to get it fixed and
bought the good old haynes, and rebuilt the lot on her kitchen table.

    Mr. Fantastic says...
Values never meant a thing to me. I used to buy 1275 Cooper Ss for
about 60 to 100 quid maximum and thrash them til they failed the MOT,
    then scrap them.

later in life I acquired a Mk3 Coopper S, which I'm pretty sure I still
own. I know where most of it is, but can't remember if I scrapped the
3rd replacement bodyshell[1] or not. I've definitely still got the V5,
chassis plate and reg plates here.

[1] 2 were written off, 2 rusted away.
