In the recent wet I've found my HG boots are leaking. They've been
great up to now but after 2 years of daily use I guess they have had
their day, although I've asked the local shoe repairer to have a go at
resticking them. Given I don't expect that will be any good I'm
looking for some suggestions as to which ones I could replace them
    with.

I sometimes will wear them all day so comfort is a concern. My
preference is for a pair that look as close to ordinary shoes/boots as
possible but obviously they need to offer some protection both from
the wet and to the feet and ankles. So no buckles, multi colours or
metal bits on the outside. Does anyone have any recommendations.

    Thanks.

I was previously a devotee of Reebok Classics, but I think that they
carry an air of "Essex" about them, and I've found that Vans are much
warmer, and have better padding around the left toe region, leading to
    smoother gearchanges.

Both my pairs of boots are Gaerne racing boots.
Zip up the inside, no sliders, look good under
jeans or over leathers, comfortable all day.

Unfortunately I don't know if they still make them.
One pair I bought in 198x at a shop that was closing down and
kept unused until SWMBO made me throw out my nearly new Diadoras.
The other pair I found in a skip at the back of GSE Racing so
they must have been worn by Bayliss or Hodgson. :)

What would you know? Last time I saw you in the rain
you could have been wearing shorts and a t-shirt and
you still wouldn't have gotten wet hiding behind that
    huge fairing of yours.

Oh, and congrats on the round britain thing.

    cheers,

I did so, too. I got a damp glove.

Given the option of riding back from Bayeux in a downpour, and getting
a wet glove, or ending up like Alien Kev and Wik, and wringing out me
undies in the gents at Aire de la Somme, I'll take a Wing every time.

I still rate my Daytonas, mind. Six years old, and they've never let
me down. Took a damned long time to break in, mind you.
    Ooh. Ta.

Heh. Not quite. The house isn't broken. It's
just that I tore it apart, I'm rebuilding it
the way I want it, and I'm being damn slow
going about it all. Sorta like you and old
    motorcycles.

Then again, after several years of 1 to 2%
yearly increase in house prices, the year
after I purchased mine here the house prices
have gone up 20% in this area. I must be
doing something right - same damn thing
happened after I bought that flat in London.

    days?

Um. Maybe. I haven't rebuilt enough of it yet for
there to be anything major to break. Yet.
Yep. Still sort of half-way up the island on the east side.
I'm liking this place more and more, what with the half-dozen vineyards
making damn fine wines within easy driving distance, several breweries
in the area making some very drinkable stuff, and lots of places making
nice foods including good bread (still nothing to match a proper french
baguette though), the best polish sausage and very nice cheeses that the
cat hasn't got to yet. Plus the nicest weather and really nice scenery.
I like it here, I do.

    cheers,
    Marc

Very very nice. Must come to that part of Canada one time. A good mate
of my stepdad emigrated to Canada in the late 60s or early 70s - he
lives (or at least lived) in Vancouver and was always going on about
how the whole west coast of Canada was the best thing since sliced
    bread etc...

Don't have one yet, but when more of the construction is
done we'll be getting a couple.
She moved in at the beginning of the month. :)
Tough, she is. Or insane, to move into a house that's
    under renovation.
