Booking campsites in France...

....is so much easier when you've had a lot of the local (French, not
Gloucestershire) produce and the SO isn't hovering and demanding to know
the fabric covering of the seating in the bar of each potential camp
site.

Holiday booked. I'm not sure it will look quite so brilliant in the cold
(sober) light of day, but I'm sure it will be fine.

What are the French drink drive laws like?

It used to be, but is the limit round about hald ours? They also have no
sense of humour and you'll probably end up in clink if caught.

Much, *much* more severe than of yore.

The limit is 50mg/100ml (ours is 80mg, I think), and they've had a real
blitz in the last few years. And I think they can yank your UK licence
these days, though SWK will confirm it or not.

Either way, don't take the piss.

 

As others say, their limits are 5/8 of those in the UK, so you should
moderate your intake accordingly if you're to stay under it. But as a
least one other also says, the chances of getting a pull, particularly
in country areas, are negligible. It's quite common to see pissed
blokes - and I mean _really_ pissed - in a bar taking their keys to
drive home.

Basically it seems, IME, that the frog plod don't tend to stop and
breathalise at random, even if they're about on the roads later in the
evening, which is itself very rare. So in your position I'd be happy
to have a pint or three and drive back a couple of miles to the site,
but would still, obviously, not do so if I was actually drunk.
