So I suppose if a 12bhp baby can do 65 without too much bother a 33bhp
    will manage it quite well.

I don't regret my decision to do a restricted course. (yet)

The CG125 is 11hp, not 12hp. My FZR250 has 45hp, the most I've seen is
    100mph[1] though.

    [1]GPS speed.

You have to take a separate test for each road you ride on? Thats harsh.

'Cos he uses 28bhp for the extra generator to power his headlights.

  7. To get a four-stroke 250 to produce 45bhp (nearly 200bhp/litre) you need
    some *serious* tuning.

In other words, the (claimed?) horsepower figure is bollocks.

I'd expect a really good sports four-stroke 250 to hit or exceed a ton,
    though.

Eh? It will hit a tonne with no trouble, and the power is 45hp
apparently, according to the official specs.

See a situation developing, like you do, and decided that the way round
it is on the throttle. Make checks, open throttle and pull out only to
find that the second action does bugger all. Not a nice place to be
    even if you are experienced.

How about getting work to sort your sig.

Some kid I was chatting to while sitting on my CG125 outside the local
Mc D did the same thing, until I suggested I go home and get my 600. :)

  11. A ton on the clock, maybe - or even with GPS - and please note the
reference to the claimed horsepower figure.

A tiny little 45bhp bike ought to be good for 115 or so. I simply don't
    believe the claimed power output.

Yeah, but by then any muppet would have gained an appreciation of how much
    power was(n't) available.

Heh. Kids these days! Don't know you're born.

I can trump that with Heathrow to Cardiff on a Suzuki TS100 (10.5bhp!)

  14. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Colin Wilson"
Glasgow to Lunnon on an AP50. Blue, it was.

  16. North London to Leicester on an XL125 (supposedly 12bhp but struggled
to go over 55mph). More worrying was riding across London on it -
especially Marble Arch. Being passed on either side by maniac
    taxi-drivers is not recommended.

Ok, I haven't had it dyno'd and all I've got to go on is the
manufacturers figures. The 600cc bikes aren't that hard to get to 180
    hp/l+, so why not a 18,000 pm 250 exup? The 2005 R6 does 209hp/l, so is
in an even higher state of tune. Going to extremes, my little 2.5cc
model engine would be happy at 33,000rpm and 1hp. :)

I can see your point though, if you're thinking real world hp, after
years of thrashing, carbon build up, carb / engine wear.

Codswallop. At the sort of speeds where this might help, a 33bhp bike
is going to have _plenty_ of power available.
By definition it is, yes. (It's a function of power and rpm.)

TOGs point is that you shouldn't believe manufacturer's claimed
figures, which are virtually impossible to prove in the real world.
