Bonus Round

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by James Mayfield, Dec 18, 2003.

  1. It must be Christmas.

NSW Government is giving us an 18-day bonus round, where we get double
    points.

Started midnight this morning, goes through till 5th January.

Ah well, I suppose I can spend the time in the shed fixing the bikes
    instead.

Same here in the West. But, because it is a 'safety' thing, we get
double points only, not double fines.

Well, for the right price, I could rent you a 1978 125cc commuter bike.
    ;-)

You can ride about like a total animal, and it won't cost very much in
    fines or points.

    regards,

Say what ? They advertised 12 on the billboards - how unlike Carr to pull a fast
    one..

  8. Oh, and according to the radio this morning, it now goes through until the
12th. I wish they'd make up their bloody minds. Now I need to find another 7
days worth of "fixing" to do to the ZX10.

So how many tickets do you get a week in a non-doubles period?

If "zero" then why bother changing habits now?

because there is prob 10 times the amount of police out there hiding in
    every crevice
they can find than on a non double period

  11. Going by last years experience I'd say I've got ten times the chance of
    being done twice as hard.

  12. Never got Zebee's post. (Dodgy TPG news server farkin farkin farkin).

But, no I don't normally get booked, but that doesn't mean I normally ride
fully within the confines of the law.

I'm still riding to work (albeit on the GPX) but I'm just not doing social
    riding over the Christmas break.

As an exercise I counted the number of cops I saw going to and from work
over the period of a week a couple of weeks back.

    2. In 10 trips.

Today alone I saw 4. In 1 trip.

Looks like Bob Carr is after a bit of a Christmas bonus.

Drove Sydney to Armidale and back for Xmas (got back last night), on the way up
I saw 4 mobile speed traps plus 1 fixed camera (I went via gloucester,
thunderbolts way), on the way back I lost count at 10 speed traps and 6 fixed
cameras. This is gone beyond silly and is off into completely blood stupid when
you consider the fact the road toll hasn't budged more than statistical noise
amounts in the last 10 years despite a thousandfold increase in speed
    detection.

And half the traffic is so dead scared of being booked or don't trust their
speedos so they do 10 K under.

    JL
(and no I didn't get booked afaik, thank god for cruise control)

How many of them were on the Thunderbolts Way? That _used_ to be a
great road for doing the Syd-Armidale trip in very quick time. Never even
_seen_ a cop on there before.
That would be me. My girlfriend accused me of driving "like a
    grandpa".

None on thunderbolt's - all 4 on the F3. Thats why I went that way.
I'd have gone back that way too except something chopped up the
sidewall off one tyre so I had to come back on the spare which is
considerably skinnier than the other tyres so I was a bit cautious of
it and hence stayed on the New England where the NRMA could rescue me
    if necessary.

I have seen a cop on thunderbolt's though - coming south on the TRX
about 2 years ago I came up behind a white commodore just after the
second one lane bridge - I nearly blasted around him on the double
line (there was plenty of vision but it'd been marked double line) but
something made me pause, closer inspection revealed a set of red and
blue lights on the parcel shelf and one too many aerials. I sat behind
    him until Gloucester :)

Phew. I thought we'd lost one of the last worthwhile roads up that
    way.
Ewww. Space savers. (I've got one of those too. Hope I never get a
    flat.)
I've also seen one. It was a 4WD, coming the other way. I went past
him at around 140, and he didn't even flinch. Seeing an unmarked car is a
    bit of a worry though!

There's cops on the Thunderbolts on a semi regular basis now. A friend
of my parents got booked just after the mountain (heading north) and the
cop told him there was two more waiting for him before Walcha! That was
a blitz, but I have seen one sitting on the side of the road on a really
long, straight, flat section (really dangerous peice of road not!) when
I went down in Novemeber. Also know someone who got booked on the Oxley
straight bits doing 154kph. Glad it wasnt me...

  19. It it's long and straight enough to encourage someone to try and nudge
200 kph, then it's a potentially dangerous section of road - or a
section of road where potentially dangerous things happen.

Hehe no - a 215/55/15* in a compound that on a bike would be considered
"touring". I got stuck behind a boxster on a space saver doing 80K - poor
    bugger.
