I have a good mind to buy one so I can keep you all amused with a kind
of ukrm bastardbeemerblog. Obviously I'd hate it, but it's all in the
interests of fairness, as I haven't owned one before yet slate them
    mercilessly.

Is this a good idea, or shall I carry on being happy?

You can't give chapter and verse if you actually know/have experience
on it. I thought you'd been here long enough to know that.

Well, you could buy an R65 of early 80's vintage and be disappointed
that for a 25 year old bike it's not that bad, or you could but
something late 90's onwards and live your dream

Lozzo was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
It's an idea worthy of URKM, that's all I'm saying.

You could try a K100RS 16V as they're not that expensive any more but
even I didn't manage to break the one I bought precrashed and
    rebuilt.

Sometime around Sun, 14 Aug 2005 08:27:14 +0100, Lozzo babbled on about:
I haved a lovely 1986 r80 that would suit you, it has a zillion miles
on the clock and has sat outside for the last 5 years, a fairer test I
    cannot think of.

Yep. And it is almost certainly in absolutely immaculate condition -
although I haven't seen it since March.

  11. My RT will probably be up for grabs during late September/early
October, when the lease comes to an end (an R1200RT in the spring
beckoneth). Email or phone me if you want to know more...
I have been very happy with my RT, the first BMW I have owned.

I have never been able to get along with the race replica riding
position - my legs get bent into what they consider to be an unnatural
angle. About 130 miles is the most distance I can cover (which,
mercifully, usually coincides with the reserve light coming on). By
contrast, I can sit comfortably through the 260-mile range the RT
provides, and have covered in excess of 600 miles in a day several
    times.

The fairing also made a 535 miles day trip to a business meeting in
Cornwall in torrential rain a much better experience than I would
expect sitting behind a sports fairing.

I have owned and enjoyed a variety of sports bikes and sports tourters
in the past, and ridden many more, and take nothing away from them.
They do lots of things far better than my RT; but when I have a meeting
to attend at the other end of the country, and I want to have fun en
route whilst arriving there on time and still able to function, the RT
    meets my requirements.

I think you'd have to be providing Loz with some sort of service in order
to get him to buy a bike for you.

I'd sell you my "lovely" R65/LS when it's running 'cept I've promised
    it to blaney first.

Seriously - the old Beemers are good - newer ones are shitenhausen.

It was just a suggestion. :)

Why are beemers thought of in a bad way by some members of UKRM? I've
seen this same thought pattern in the real world too.

    I think it's fairer to say that they're over-rated. They present a
certain image and charge a premium for it. However, they seldom live up
    to that image.

If he's serious, he could make me a silly offer for the Evil Twin, and I can
go orf and buy something sensible like a Centauro Sport.

  20. They're overpriced for what they are. The old Beemers were good in their
day, and indeed, I'd have another R80/7RT like a shot, just for bimbling
    around on.
