Read the story about that ship beached off the coast in the UK.
Among the gear washed up onto the beach and pounced upon by scavengers
was a new BMW bike still in its crate ! Police say they have no powers
to stop people taking anything that washes up on the beach !!!!!!!!!!!!

On the news this morning they were saying about 15 bikes have been salvaged so far, as well as barrels of wine, nappies, etc.

"Around 50 BMW motorbikes were carried off the beach last night," he added.

Gareth Topping told BBC News he had pulled one of the motorbikes out of a
    container.

"It took about eight to 10 of us to lift each one out. As each one came out the
front wheels were put on, then they were taken down to the beach and over the
    cliffs," he said.

"It took about eight to 10 of us to lift each one out. As each one came
That should read "......then they were taken down to the beach and
    *chucked* over the cliffs"
I would pay to see that!

I "think" that the containers are quite watertight ( for a few days
anyway). If the ship is close 2 the beach the containers may have only
been partly submerged for an hour or so. PLUS the bikes would have been
in some kind of protective packaging I should imagine :)

once it was dried out it would work for a while, then all the
electrical connections would corrode and turn green..

but if they have simular laws that we have here they prolly wont be
able to reg them, the real owners will have them written off for
insurance and then they will be unregistable

but for free, sell them for parts :)

The bikes and crated inside a sealed container , containers are
generally pretty watertight and they do float ashore in the container so
one would expect the bike to be untouched , and as is seen they start
well and can be ridden away ( 30 thousand quid a time)

the scavengers have 21 days to contact the proper owners, if they do not
they will be charged with theft, the police are taking names and addresses
of all scavengers and noting what they are taking.

    Wonder what the punishment is?

Ride the BM for the next five years, or be transported to Oz?

    ....or both?
