I've been offered a 1938 BMW R51 in complete (dismantled) condition. Looks
to be all there (Telescopic forks model)

Anyone got any idea of its value??

Very much depends on the condition of the cosmetics TBH
    Paintwork and chrome cost lots.

    Worth £2-2.5k fully restored anyone?

Hog was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
I'd guess it's worth a bit more when in really good condition as there
aren't that many about. OTOH it's probably worth a few hundred ('bout
    500) if dismantled and complete.

That said - Tom, I urge you to read the bit about buying dismantled
bikes in the FAQ. Unless you know very well what you're looking at I'd
    give it a miss.

And when *Timo* says that about a BMW, you know that you are standing
on the very edge of a very expensive precipice.....

  6. Yes I'd go along with what the others have said, 5 months ago I was offered
free a 1961 Triumph Twenty-one, this had been shed stored since the late
    60's in bits.
I took the project on only to find bits were missing and the dreaded rot had
got in to places that on first inspection I had not seen, i.e. inside the
front forks the springs had corroded away also the rear frame had all but
disappeared, the crank need regrinding, most of the bearings had to be
replaced as did the wiring harness, and the list goes on. last week I taxed
(free) insured and mot'd it and used it on New Years Day for it's first
rally she looks very good for a Twenty-one with it's bath tub but still cost
me near on £1000 and that was doing it all myself.
This was my fifth project completed and gave me much satisfaction but a lot
of heart ache and head scratching mostly trying to find bits at the right
cost, so be warned the cost can run away.
