I've always fancied one of these and I fancy a bit of a change. I've
ridden one before so I know how it feels and believe I would get more
use out of it than I do with the Fireblade.

So, what should I look out for, where are the good deals, how much
    will I get PX etc..?

Anecdotally, the 1150 is better than the 1200. I've heard of 1150
owners upgrading to a 1200 and then going back.

I satisfied my curiosity years ago, with a little help from darsy.

It's just that I've become a bit bored of the type motorcycling a
sports bike provides. I'll get this out of my system and buy a 10R to
    keep it company.

Translation: "I've realised that no matter what sports bike I ride, I'm
no faster than an SV650, so I'm looking for a new excuse"

Services are every 6k, with a more detailed one at 12k intervals. There are
a few extra items at 24k but not a huge difference to the normal 12k
interval (fuel filter, clutch fluid, oil in rear wheel drive). Probably a
£100 at BMW dealer prices in the SE.

If the bike has done 36k then make sure the poly V (alternator) belt has
    been changed.

Go to www.ukgser.com and spend a day or two reading the 1200/1150
arguments. Lots of other useful info there with an awful lot of crap.

I reckon you'll do like darsy and get bored with one in a few months.

Pretty much why my Daytona and current SV will be up for sale soon, and
a new or newer SV will appear in the stable.

Including the F650GS? I quite liked the rental one (2002 model) I rode
in the Dolomites 2 weeks ago, except for the slipping clutch, but to be
fair, being a rental it had probably been abused mightily for most of
    its 56 000 km.

Just buy the 10R and be done with all the bollocks. You know it's the
best bike you've ever been near so what's the problem?

Don't buy one of the second generation ones, you'll only feel let
    down...

I feel the same about my 10R. Then I ride it as fast as I can and
realise that there's nothing gets near it for feeling that it's all
    out of control.

Um, is the point at which the bike cannot accelerate any faster when
you've got the front wheel just hovering off the ground all the way
through 1st and 2nd and you can't open the throttle any more because
the wheel will come up further?
