    Erk!

I had a dark blue and black one with a conventional front mudguard. It
looked nice. Eventually sported proper panniers. It was impossible to
    sell on privately though.

    S != RT.

RTs are in silly demand, despite the fact that the 75 barely has enough
    power to push that fairing.

Cos he wants something that won't fall to pieces under load, like say, a
    <whisper mode on> er ... oriental <wisper mode off> velocipede.

Next time you see an AA or RAC man parked up, ask him what make of
motorcycle they are most frequently called out to repair or recover. I'm
not counting stuff like accidents, dud alarms or running out of fuel
because they're not the fault of the bike's manufacturer, but proper
    mechanical breakdowns and suchlike.

This may well be true, but it would be interesting to see the number of
breakdowns per 1k miles or similar figure, in comparison to other makes
    of bike.

BMW owners tend to do lots more miles on their bikes.

    Wow I didn't know that :)
It goes. It'll do 125mph 2-up if you don't mind waiting a while for it
    to get there.

    True.

I'd prefer the later K1 as that could take panniers. The early ones
could just about carry some underclothes, a toothbrush and a packet of
    ear-plugs.

I don't believe this is true. I think they do only as many as anyone
else, they just claim to do lots more. As TOG once said, BMW owners are
the worst offenders when it comes to shouting about how brilliant their
bikes are, yet they have the least reasons to do so.

You'll get the odd high mileage BMW pervert like Burnt, but they are few
and far between. He's had his fair share of mechanical troubles on his
Ks though. For high mileage stuff I think VFR and GT750 owners are more
prolific, they have far fewer problems too.

So it was slow, foul handling, heavy, overpriced, had no luggage
capacity, wasn't a sports bike or really a sports tourer and was encased
    in easily damaged expensive plastics.

Remind me about what was so good about it please.
