'Arguably the best of the K range'

I think he's a bit optimistic there, surely the K1 was the best, closely
followed by the K1100RS / LT depending on your preference of sports or
    touring?

Looks nice, mind. But I reckon you'd wish you'd bought a bigger one very
    quickly.

1200 quid and no luggage, with that mileage? He's having a whole herd
    of giraffes.

900-1000 max. Generally pretty good bikes, the FSH to 55k bit would
worry me a tad as they only go forever if you service them regularly.

Why d'ya think the K1 the best?

Dunno. Never ridden one. I like the K1100 LTs and used to have a poster
of the K1 on my wall when I was a kid. I want one, just because of that
poster - in the same way that I also want a Testarossa or 959.

Fair enough. I'm just after something to mooch around on, no plans to
    tour the world,

truth is I probably don't know what I want, need to stop and think
    over the winter I think.

No idea on prices BMWs get now, been out of bikes for a while and
haven't brought a UBG for years.

    Thanks

    I've had several (5) 8v K100RS's but have ridden a couple of K75S's whilst
they have'nt the low down torque of the 4 cylinder they're a lot sweeter
    engine with zero vibes.

Just wish they had'nt skimped on the fairing and had given it the same as
the K-RS. Whilst I have'nt ridden the LT faired version I'd suspect it'd
struggle to push that fairing along.

I too fancied a K1 at one point but various bad reports on the 16v K100
engine regarding its pain in the arse valve gear adjusment and cracking
header pipes conspired to put me off.

I might pay a grand on the basis it's not worth selling bikes for much
less. Not a penny more though.

Depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for a bike with sporting pretentions forget the K
    series.

If you're looking for something ultra-reliable[1] then go for an 8v and
    not a 16v.

If you're looking for something smooth go for the K75 (triple) and not
    the K100 (four)
    I don't know about that.

[1] Tank leaks and dodgy clutches excepted...

What context? You said that "surely the K1 was the best" before saying
in your very next post that that opinion is formed from having once
    owned a poster of one.

So far we've had two votes for the K1. One from you, who's never ridden
one, and one from Tim, who's known to be mentally unbalanced.

One against from Eiron, who's at least ridden one once. And one from Hog
who - whilst he is admittedly also mentally unbalanced - does know his
    BMWs.
