If you want some pics of the stock BMW fittings, let me know as I'll be
visiting my '81 R65RS tomorrow and can magic some up

I think I'd go for minimum hassle and find OEM frames and boxes. Plenty
around. The frames are quite unobtrusive, unlike the Krauser kit.

  4. I didn't find the old Krauser stuff obtrusive at all.

Obtrusive, maybe not. **** ugly, definitely.

If the panniers are on the bike all the time then it won't make any
difference, but if you run with the panniers off then I'd go with the
    BMW frames every time

You should have received the set for perusal by now.

If you haven't figured it out: the lower brackets fix to the footrest
bracket or similar. The upper ones to the top shock mounts. The back
brackets mount to the tail light/number plate bracket and are held
together with a short bolt, nut, and a couple of large washers to clamp
    them up. Everything's very adjustable.
