I'd quite like to lob a couple of those hard BMW panniers on the R650LS
    - what's involved oh BMW foak?

What sort of price should I expect to pay?

You just need the OE frames
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-R45-R65-p...99?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item23101d7363
and a couple of the early boxes
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-panniers-/150602676786?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item23109e7a32
    or the later K ones
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-panniers-...65?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3367960e25

    easy to fit.

I've got a pair and frames with all the mounting brackets, that came
off an old R80. Decent Krausers, no cracks or damage, wiv keys. Yours
for £85 the lot. They should bolt straight on.

    <Bad form post>

That's one of the twin-shocker R80s, not the Monolever one.

The later K rails don't bolt straight onto the twin-shock boxers, do
    they?

I've just recalled that I recently came across a pair of frames that
came wih the bike (no panniers).

    Yours if you can collect.

In other words for the Krauser luggage system and not for the BMW OE frames.
There is a Krauser frame system on eBay but perhaps using the standard parts
    will be more hassle free
The later type boxes with the folding catches are probably better, none of
    them really waterproof though!

Hmmm complicated - maybe I'd better get the frames off WUN first and
    take a look.

Yes, Hog is right. Mine are Krauser frames and panniers, and the BMW
OE frames are definitely different. Krauser stuff is probably better,
and there's certainly much more of it about, plus the fittings make
them adpatable to many bikes. I fitted an identical kit to this to:-

    The 400 Four
    The GT750 Slut Bike
    A mate's Yamaha TDM850
and a Suzuki DR350 (of all things)

whereas the OE BMW frames will only fit BMWs.

Would be a good idea, because *all* I know about them is that I got them
with the bike. They may not even fit! ;^)

That's the style of mine, yes, only without those circular doobries on
    the frames.

"Universal fitment" = "fits just about anything badly".

    While I'm about it:

    "Quality finish" = "Smoothrite"

"Made by OE supplier" = "Of kit car bits"

"Not your usual Chinese junk" = "No, nothing nautical about it at all"

"Not the usual rubbish" = "Really unusual rubbish"

"Made in our own Far Eastern factory" = "Mounting instructions in
    Vietnamese"

"Race tested" = "We export these to Africa"

And as someone else once observed, a good rule of thumb is to avoid
any accessory named after a race circuit.
