Well, the MOT is due next week, and my speedo is still not working.
I read on the internet that this is a common problem on K100's and there is
even a fix (which I have tried, but it didn't work)
The rev counter, all panel lights including fuel level indicator etc are
working, but the speedo and trip meter just refuse to work.
Has anyone got any ideas, better still has anyone got a K100 speedo they
    want to sell?

    Regards

    Dave

I'm sorry, but is there any connection whatsoever between these two
    statements?

    Yes!
I've been putting off the "fix the speedo" problem.
Now the MOT is due and it won't pass with a fucked speedo.

Why ever not? I don't recall the speedometer being a testable item,
and I have never seen one tested.

As long as the needle isn't stuck there won't be a problem.

The K100 speedo will either be:

    - The pickup in the bevel box
    - THe connection from the pickup to the loom
    - The connection at the base of the clocks
    - The connections between circuit boards in the clocks.

Try to fix by cleaning them all up, give up and fit a cycle speedo...

The speedo-, odo- and trip-meter work by picking up a signal from a
magnet in the final drive gear box. You can see the lead emerging from
the top of the drive box, and continuing forwards on top of the swing
arm. Under the right side cover is a connector, from which the lead
continues up to the instrument cluster. I would check the integrity of
this circuit before thinking of replacing the instruments.

Alternatively, you could fit a cycle computer (e.g. Sigma 800 or Targa
[1]), which besides the mentioned functions also indicate max and
average speed, and can also be set to indicate km/h if you also venture
onto the continent. An easy £20-25 DIY job. Instructions on how to fit
one are also posted somewhere on the www.ibmwr.org/ktech/ pages. Search
    for <sigma>.

While at it, you may also consider fixing your signature separator as
well - which should read "hyphen hyphen space". Almost equally important
for some Usenet-users as a MoT for the wheels.
[1] If considering other cycle computers, make sure they can record
sufficient top speeds. The mentioned Sigmas read up to 300 km/h.

Best of luck with the fixes!

I'd ask for him to show you the requirement in his manual.

The only problem I can think of is the need to see the odometer. Am I
right in thinking, the digital type, if it doesn't work it doesn't show
    the mileage?

  9. Afaik, the odometer reading isn't a requirement. Yes, there's a place
for it to be written down, but a working odometer (or a missing one) is
    neither here nor there.
