Just for once, for the first time in a long while, BMW has produced a
bike I might actually buy new.

(Or I might wait to see if they make an F800 RT)

Have they announced a price? If it's around £6k like the ST then it will
    probably sell quite well.

why on earth would you want an F800GS in preference to a TDM900?

Although, looking at Autotrader it seems the F800S is unloved. Cannon are
advertising new ones for under £6k plus a £250 cashback for a registration
    before Xmas.

'cos it's a trail bike whereas the TDM is'nt (assuming a trail bike is
    required)

Some off-road ability, looks nicer, will be *way* better finished,
likely to be cheaper to run (on current F800 figures), better choice
of accessories, and will depreciate less.

    For starters.

A mate has the ST and loves it. I've pored over one in Tunbridge
Wells' BMW showroom - the slghtly low screen puts me off it, plus the
fact that while the bike is well priced, the accessories vary from the
'reasonable' to the 'how fucking much?'. I don't see why a centre
stand should be an optional extra, for example. Just bolt the fucker
on, and if you must have an option, make it a delete option.

Do you think it would be reliable or well finished?

You'll have to wait anyway, even if you put down a deposit now. Some
contributors over at UKGSer.com are putting down deposits now, for March
    delivery. Price is £6695 OTR.

ok, so you're ignoring the facts the the BMW will be more expensive in
the first place, probably a lot more unreliable and slower.

    fair enough

oh, of course. Probably similar to why I'm considering buying a
Porsche and a TVR next year.

don;t worry, I'll almost certainly not buy one; I just love the looks
    of the Tuscan 2, though.
