I certanly found that manouvering a large heavy bike on creek crossings
and rutted muddy roads that the playing I'd done with trials bikes was
far more useful than being able to get a foot down. Throttle control
and balance was everything, when I tried to paddle it along things got
    ugly quickly.

Could be, although harder to get the entire leg like that, especially
with a BMW. And would still need to be a fair old wallop, femurs are
    tough buggers.

Mind you - I broke mine with nothing but bodyweight, but that was coming
    from a great height....

You're an untrusting soul, Baz. What have you got against
semiconductors, that's what I want to know!

She thinks the fence post hit her leg.

I think she hit the wall head on but she has burns on her right ankle
as well, probably from hot parts of the bike. The bike is a write off.

It is possible. It takes a lot of skill. Developing the skill may
involve a whole lot of 'dabbing'. Which may be tricky if you're 5'5".

I rarely use strength against the R100GS ... it's a lot stronger than
me. Occasionally, I need to, mostly at no real speed.

Actually, I've got to change some things on the GS, it's very difficult
to get 'up over' it and ride it like a dirt bike ...

Hard to do on a boxer twin. Must be a gymnast.

Probably won't be a gymnast after this tho Sharks.
She has pins in the leg bone and there's a prob with
her hip joint. She'll need physiotherapy for several months
at least,& they've told her to consider a less strenuous sport
for the future. She even has pain in her neck and shoulders.
All that for about a half hour of riding her new bike.

Yeah we are trying to encourage her to forget that bike but she says
if it can't be fixed, she'll get another one the same. The neighbour
said he saw her come off the bike as it went through the fence, and it
dug in and went end for end down into the wall with her sliding and
tumbling behind it. He called the ambulance and went to her aid until
it arrived. He said she was screaming before she lost consciousness
and the helmet had come off her head as she hit the fence. It's an
open face helmet with under chin straps, but she may have left the
straps loose. Some bastard must have pinched the helmet, we can't
    find it now.

Huuuuuuge bike! (for a 650) Did you not say "friend"?
Yes. BMW appeals to a much wider "market" (as the marketing wonks say) than
was once the case. You should be looking at the F650CS (Scarver), definitely
    a girls' bike.

Agreed. Tibias ain't dinky either (although fibulas are a bit more frail.
Especially if you get a bit of twisting leverage on your foot.)
That's a bad injury for the described crash.
