what do you think of blue tooth communication in helmets?

Listen to Music, Mobile phones, rider to pillion intercom, short range 10m
    bike to bike intercom.

Nolan has just released a new flip front helmet with a Ncom headset, with
    expandable modules such as bluetooth.

    Anybody got experience with bluetooth?

  2. I wouldn't distract myself like that.

There's a lot of noise on the road, even with a good quiet helmet, so
for me it would be a constant struggle to hear the music. I'd be forever
adjusting the controls when I came to a town and the music was suddenly
too loud (I know this happens in a car).

For me the riding experience is a way to get away from phones, CDs,
radio chatter and conversation. I get plenty of that when I'm off the road.

I have plenty of experience with BT from a mobile / PC perspective, not
with motorcycle helmets, but am eager to try it out.

I've got a couple of gold teeth, but they don't get good reception. Nor do
    the ceramic caps.

Great idea. Create distractions from what you are doing. Resemble a car
    driver.

This is the sort of utilisation it's designed for (except the 10m bike
to bike, I doubt that will work well).
Hmm sounds good, might have to check it out. BMW already have one, and
there's another brand also does (HJC maybe ? The Koreans are mad on
    technology))
Be aware there are multiple versions of BT and they aren't totally
compatible. Make sure the sender and receiver versions match or you
    could have difficulties.

I think it works incredibly well and wouldn't be without it.
I've used the Cardo Scala-Rider for some time now and
contrary to what you might expect, it's very easy to use.
Hands free answering/rejection of calls, voice dialing,
automatic volume adjusting by background noise level...
easy to hear, and people think I'm talking from my living
room rather than going down the freeway on the bike.
I couldn't care less about music, but I'd love to be able to
patch in GPS... and have the rider to pillion. For the
bike to bike, I would have preferred they used a 100M setup
rather than the 10M. I'm sure the 10M will be workable
though, but only within 10M. In my experience it gets very
crackly above about 12M, and disconnects as you approach
around 20M. To be usable as a bike to bike, the device
would also have to automatically connect/reconnect when in
range. I'll be very interested in trying out the Nolan.

Does anyone know who is going to be carrying the Nolan
bluetooth devices, and where, in Western Australia?

I'm also interested in hearing from an actual rider who's
used the device, rather than some company spokesman or
    review geek.

What is the legality of it's use, MB?

BTW, JL, we never got any further with all the discussions re: G3 and pdas
and all that, I'd better ask you some more....

I paid $150 for a Scala Rider bluetooth for my phone. Rechargabel,
waterprrof and adjust volume the fast you go. I also has auto or manual
answer. Just allen keys onto the side of the helmet and you thread the
earpiece up into the ear cavity on the helmet. Works on both open face on
full face. My only gripe is that it diverts the call too quickly if you
    dont answer it.

Which is why I'll stick with my good earplug earphones.

Music (or in my case, spoken word) clear but soft enough to keep my
ears intact. Movable between lids, plus can listen to the ipod when
    off the bike.

Don't care about a phone! If they want me that badly they can leave a
    message.

    Is that the N102?
I was thinking of getting one myself to replace the N100. What's it like?
Is the padding and quietness any better then the pretty austere N100?

Sometimes its an exchange setting so a call to the carrier and ask them to
change the divert timer setting. I find it too short generally and get
Telstra to alter mine to longer.

Provided it's been paid for and you don't use it to bash
anyone about the head, you'll be right.
