Just to let everyone know, the $2 Rebel Sport cotton inners work a
treat! I wouldn't say toasty warm, but definately not finger-numbing
    painful.

As I said I wasn't too sure which city he was in. Didn't realise there
was an Elizabeth street in Melbourne.

That's where the term "sand paper" comes from no doubt.

How do you think one performs ablutions in the middle of 50Deg c heat
with nothing but a billion tonnes of sand for company ? ( where did I
    mention watching (is that transference))

There have been several suggestions, and I haven't bothered to read all the
responses, so I may be duplicating something; firstly, I use Damart
    (mailorder ?)
gloves as inners. They specialize in that sort of product. The gloves are
not bulky, and have fine aluminium threads woven into the fabric. I like
them better than some woolen ones that I also have. Think they cost < $20
    (?)
As an alternative, in the most recent Ulysses Riding On Mag., p68, the is a
    reference to "Widder Electric Gloves"
Suggests thet they are more effective than heated grips.
Last paragraph: "We can't praise the gloves enough nor the service. Pay
particular attention to the sizing. We ordered one size smaller as suggested
but probably could have ordered a size lower again. BMW style plugs are
    available.
    Visit them at: http://www.widder.com/ "

Cause then you can piss off the 'orrible' standard ones and put some
comfy touring ones or 'bling' sporty ones (depending upon ones
    preference)...

I used new grips with my last set of heated handgrips, why waste a
chance to replace the normally horrid standard ones?

Thicker padded grips transmit less vibration and allow a more open
finger angle leading to better blood flow (and can be helpful for people
    with carple (el?) tunnel syndrome).

Of course if one rides an appliance bike with no vibration then it
    probably isn't an issue :)
