A motorcycle/bike accessories shop not on Elizabeth Street.

Why don't you want to install heated grips?

    Snowmobile gloves work reasonably well.

No, latex and rubber gloves aren't really suitable. They might keep
your hands dry, but they won't keep them warm.

I may look at that as an option, as long as they're thick.

For some reason, I get really sore hands when I use "standard" diameter
    grips.

I fit a set of cheapo $8 foam grips to all my bikes now, as I find that
    fixes the problem.

My wife has suffered from CTS for several years, and as such I've done
quite a bit of research into the condition. The symptoms I have don't
really fit CTS, as there's no tingling or numbing involved, and the
pain is not in my wrists/forearms (or thumb), but is more a radiated
pain across the back of my hand. I'm happy enough to blissfully ignore
it, and change my grips to suit. Cheers.

What brand heated grips did you use? Are some better than others? At
    $60, it's a pretty inexpensive solution.

Most off the shelf heated grips are pretty bulky, which is mostly
considered to be a downside, not an upside. I just fitted a set of
Ballards grips to my bike. They're the type which lemmiwinks also
suggested and google shows Al Pennykid has been promoting for years.
Simple to install and use the grips of your choice. A small amount of
wiring/soldering to be done (which would be a much quicker proposition
on your naked bike. Cost $61 delivered.

Very easy to get grips off, I use compressed air, a quick spurt with a
nozzle and the grips come off without a problem.

I can't imagine much whooshing going on after you've stuck biscuits up
    your bottom.

Postman Pat (I've bought six or seven sets of VSM grip heaters--I really
    have to stop changing bikes...)
