Something's not quite right with the electrickery. Any handy tips for
a mechanical fuckwit gratefully accepted ...

    GSX750F, Datatool 3.

Riding home last night and the alarm starts going off. Had to stop for
fuel and a garage is as good a place as any to break down ...

Alarm going off at 7 billion Db, checked the fuses and it had blown
the Signal fuse so I dropped the spare in. Bike wouldn't start.
Hmmm... Checked side-stand switch, run switch etc. still nothing.
Bump-started it and it fired up. Ho hum, so much for immobilisers...
Decided to ride home without filling up.

First time I used the indicator, all panel electrics go dead so I
think I know where to start looking. The battery appears fine as it
    goes on t'Optimate most nights.

Checked it this morning and it's blown the Signal, Ignition and the
in-line Datatool fuse and I've used all my spares. So I trot off to
the local garage and they've got the mini fuses, but only in 2.5, 3
and 5 amp and not in 10 & 15 amp, same at the next garage ... and the
    next...

SWMBO's picked me up a handful from M/c dealer today but I'm sat at
work, transport-less, the day before I'm due to go on hols for a week
.... and probably coming home to fun-filled earth-tracing on the bike.

    Arses.

    <snip alarm agonies>

This may seem a bit radical - but just rip the fucker out. Trace the
wires to where the original loom has been cut into and re-join. If
you're halfway competent with a soldering iron it should only take a
couple of hours and for that you'll get a lifetime free of DataTool
    Difficulties.

I had very similar symptoms in France last year on the MV. Alarm going
off while riding, instrument panel dying (then coming on again then
dying again), all sorts of other weird things.

I blamed it on the alarm & ripped it out, replaced various fuses, & the
instrument panel fuse promptly went 'pop' again. Eventually traced the
problem to water in the connector for the Yellow Box speedo adjuster -
nothing to do with the alarm at all.

The moral to this story? The alarm may just be a victim of
    circumstances.

Thanks Pip, I was after something more along the lines of ...

    1) take off seat.
    2) look for datatool
    [...]
47b) Now, using the chisel, hacksaw and ordinary household bleach,
    carefully rip the fucker out.
    [...]

I'm halfway competent with a soldering iron in that I've _now_ learned
    which end to hold.
    Well, I know that *now* don't I?

    Bear says...
    **** alarms.

Never again will I allow one to be fitted to any of my bikes.

  6. Yeah, but do you know _not_ to press down on the tip with your
left thumb if the joint is reluctant to melt? That took some explaining to
the (v. cute female) First Aid person at TRIUMF...

No, it's the alarm's fault. Always. Bear and Loz said so.
