Hi Dave. So you got a Blackbird.

How did you manage to find a really slow one? ;-)

Some interesting (well, I think so) things I noticed in Athens.

You can lane-split between moving traffic, even when the two lanes are
    moving in opposite directions.

Automatic, as in scooters, and semi-autos, as in step-thrus and postie
type bikes, allow riders to compete on almost equal terms with car
drivers for dopey activities while riding. I saw folking riding,
drinking coffee, eating something, and _lots_ of mobile phone use!

Award for most creative one-handed riding was a cafe waiter, delivering
three cups of coffee, complete with glasses of water, on his C90 Honda.

Because of the slippery roads, I only saw one really neat mono....
a kid on a Z50, of course! :) All the flash sport bikes spend most of
their time wheel spinning and don't have enough grip to wave the front
    in the air.

They seem to have some interesting road rules (!) in Greece.

From what I saw, the double white line business, and any other lane
markings, are purely a cosmetic arrangement on the roads.

One way street rules do not apply to two-wheeled vehicles at all, while
cars and trucks can only go the wrong way if they have a _serious_ need
    to do so. =:-O

Their traffic light system is interesting, too. They don't have repeater

lights on the other side of intersections, so, if you stop too close to the

lights, you can't actually see when they change to green (assuming you
stop for the red). Then, a bunch of bikes lane split up in front.
They assume that the car drivers will sound their horns to let them know
    the light has changed!

I saw a lot of quite interesting bikes, especially of the smaller
capacity range, which we don't see here. Of the bigger machines, most
tend to be the semi-chookie style, with super motards being common too.

I did notice that, on the few R1's and similar that I saw, quite a few
had a really neat system for the number plate...tucked up under the
seat. Visible from directly behind, but well out of the way of the speed
    cameras. :)

There are supposedly speed cameras, but I didn't see any. Maybe the car
rental company will let me know if I missed any. ;-)

    Hi Ash.

Well, I got the RZ back....it spent its holidays at MMT, getting one or
two bits fixed up.... rear shock rebuilt, etc.

I rode over today on the Hornet, which was due for a wee service and
pink slip, left it and rode the RZ home.

Next week seems free, and, I hope I'll be sorted out by then for waking
up and going to sleep.... :)

    regards,

order and drink coffee and be ready to head off again by the time I catch
    up.

    Hope to catch up soon.

Am I right in thinking that a couple of blobs of nylon and a couple of bolts
cost $100? Rocker covers are cheaper than that :)

  14. Well yes... but some bikes have expensive bits under some covers... some
Suzuki's (like the bandits and earlier GSXR's) are well known for doing
cranks if they grind through covers and keep going only a little way.
