OTOH, making up a hard drive power supply extension lead splitter and getting the 12V and 5V lines transposed can lead to spectacular chip popping from the IDE controller board under the drive. Or... plugging a lead into a 3.5" drive misplaced by one pin position (socket was fucked) so you could connect the 5v supply to earth makes the PSU go "bang" pretty fucking quick from switch on!
