  2. They are. The 306 used the same passive rear wheel steer platform as the
Citroen ZX and was a great small car. The 307 that followed it didn't
    and wasn't.

I had two ZXs: the 1.6 petrol and the 1.9TD. The TD was way better than
the petrol. PSA just didn't build very good petrol engines at the time,
    but built superb diesels.

I'm looking at a meridian spec 2l HDi with 91K miles on it.
It's asking £1600 and is the correct colour.
I should really look up the service schedule, I got a bit stuffed on the
last one with £400 odd of belts and stuff subsequent service.

If you use my first name instead of spam then it does.

Drop me an email and I'll send a link to the place we'll be using.

The non-turbo one I had probably had done about 150,000. I only scrapped
it once the work required on brakes and steering to get through an MoT
became more than it was worth, not even any body rot. SirPip could
probably have kept it on the road for years more on a shoestring budget.
The acceleration of a snail, but once up to motorway speeds it could
hold them easily yet only sip fuel. Don't know if the TD versions
introduce enough added complexity that makes them less reliable but the
basic XUD unit just goes on and on.

  7. No, the TDs were just as solid. They fitted that engine to the Citroen
ZX, Xantia, Peugeot 306, Peugeot 405, and even (I think) the 205. Plus
    probably several others.

  8. I've no idea what the value is, but that seems like a **** of a lot for
a nondescript French hatchback that's been out of production for a
    decade.

That's the pretty one with all the dials turned up. It must have been a
good one 'cause it was sold yesterday. Nothing similar within reach.

The price difference of cars seems trivial compared with the insurance
    quotes I'm getting.

Well, why not do the drumming in a house, or flat, be much better than in a
    car.

I do drumming in the flat and the office already. It's only the commute
    that's drum free.

No steering wheel at all! I do drum on the tank at the lights though.

A drum kit should be OK IWHT, but it's not always how much room you
have available, but the aperture! I couldn't get an armchair in my 306
GTi6[1] as it wouldn't go through the hatch, but it slotted in nicely
    in P's Micra.

[1] Like an XSi but far, far better!)

I test drove an S16 before buying the XSi. The challenge was finding a
GTi6, S16 or XSi that hadn't been lowered, tuned, customised or had a
Oakley/FidoDido/whatever sticker plastered all over its blacked out
    windows.

I had no issue finding them, but getting one at a decent price was
tricky, so after deciding that I really wanted one I decided to just
    throw money at the problem.

I first test drove a gold one in Kenton one morning and decided I liked
the car but not the colour (and especially not the interior) so left
that dealer with the task of sourcing one, preferably in Diablo Red.

To then get to work in Waltham Cross I went up the Edgware Rd in
Colindale. And there, sat on the forecourt of another dealer was a
Diablo Red one with alcantara interior and it was just about on my max
budget, so I did the deal there and then.

That's probably more thought, effort and attention to detail than I've
put into all my vehicle purchases, ever, combined.

It's the light show that causes the comments from the neighbours, but
    the ambiance is just lovely.
