Today was the day - 9 weeks and 5 days after the bone graft op on my
leg, today they took a new xray to see if it is fixing.

    And it is!!!!!

It's not completely there yet, but there's definitely new bone growth
in the gaps. If Purplecloud wasn't on it's arse (again...hmmm) I'd be
writing this on my blog, and there'd be a copy of the xray to
    accompany the text.

The consultant wants to see me again in 8 weeks, and told me that I
was OK to put 100% of my weight on the leg. He also said that if I
overdid it, any pain was likely to show up during the night, so to
    take it slowly.

So then I hobbled down to physio, and practised walking with one
stick. It seems that in the past 6 months my body has developed a
distinct list to port to protect the right leg, and I actually found
it hard to walk upright with even weight distribution. And, although
the muscles in my leg look ok, they're very week - after 15 mins of
walking on the leg, still with a single stick, the muscles were
fatigued and threatening to fold up under me. But the muscle strength
should come back quickly, especially as I'll be having physio twice a
    week between now and Christmas.

    Anyway, I'm a bloody happy chap :)

Good news! we didn't need another Frag on the NG anyway.

So the Elefantreffen is a certainty. Cool.

So you should be. That's brilliant news and now all you need to do is
chuck a bit of fuel in the 10R and get back on the horse.

You know what else you have to do don't you? I'd get off to the NEC if
I were you and investigate heated clothing.

It's much easier to simply say "**** off you lunatic, I'd rather nail my
    scrotum to a plank."

Avoids all the doubt. And nagging.

Yersh, but foolishly, in a moment of alcohol induced bonhomie, I said
that "If my leg is fixed in time, I'll go to the Elefant to
    celebrate".

So now I'm looking hard at the definitions of 'fixed' and 'in time'.

I think you really need to examine the definition of 'celebrate', TBH.

I'd also include "alcohol induced" cos IIRC you were sober.

I was, but I'd had a couple, and was catching up with mates I hadn't
seen for a while, and was generally in a good mood.

Burnt & I both bought stuff by a company called EXO (1) at the NEC and
I think the major selling point (for me at least) was that the gloves
are decent armoured ones that are fully waterproof and the jacket is
both breathable and machine washable. The offerings from the
competitors were "hand wash but be careful and you might be ok".

It wasn't cheap kit but worked pretty well. Burnt fitted a controller
so he could regulate the temperature but being I wuss I went for
maximum temperature at all times. He also reckoned that the gloves
were looking tatty in a couple of places sooner than he'd have
expected but I only use mine when it's really cold so mine are still
    fine.

I know it's traditional to only recommend what you use yourself but
I've been very impressed with mine. You can buy small battery power
packs for them so if it's really cold at night you could sleep with
    the jacket on. I'm tempted...

    (1) I'm not at home so can't check but posting to the list will get an
    answer.
