Any recommendations where I can get a hex bit so I can get the front
    wheel out of the Zed?

    I think it's 14mm

    Inexpensive, natch.

Do you mean the spindle removal tool? I got mine off eBay for the princely
sum of about 3 quid. They're always for sale from some eBay shop or other.
I can't remember what size it is.

You can get big hex sockets in Halfords, but you have to hunt for them -
they're usually billed as being for drain bolt removal or something like
that. Cost about three quid or so.

So did I. Kawasaki Z750 spindle tool. £3 delivered. Item 300018294076

    Except it doesn't fit :-(

My 12mm is too small, and the 17mm from eBay is too big.

I need the Goldilocks hex bit

Get an old 3/8 drive plug socket with the hex head as well and hack the
end off, use that. It's what I have in my toolkit for the same purpose.

    12 yes, 17 yes, 14 no.

And when I asked to see the big sexy tool catalogue so I could order
one, I was told they don't do that any more - there's what's in the
cabinet and that's your lot :-(

How can you be so stupid with only one head?

Take an old plug socket, they usually have a 14mm hex head as well as a
3/8 drive fitting. Cut the end off and use it in a 3/8 drive ratchet as
    a spindle removal tool.

Just the one, and the plug socket I cut mine from was the smaller size
that fits plugs like DR8ES, such as those fitted to Honda 250s etc.

Hey, I'm not the one scrabbling around for a tool to fit my bike, who's
    stupid now?

Not sure, but I think the radiator valve fitting allen key is about that
    size.
I'll check in the morning if it helps, as ICBA to rummage in the garage
    tonight.

Ask someone who's got several of them in his toolbox to post one to
you, assuming either he or his wife know your address (1). Of course
you might have to wait until the weekend until someone who's got one
gets home from Norfolk. You might find it beneficial to send someone
who's got one an email to remind them in case they're a bit thick and
    forget.

Are you sure it's 14mm and am I reading this right that you want an
Allen key type hex bit? 14mm hex is normally found on an M16 thread
and that sounds a bit small.
    Free.

    (1) They might know where you live but not actually know the address
    iykwim.

I've got either 3 or 4 in my toolbox but if they're rare then they're
    expensive.

There's a "two way" thing you can get. A different size on each end and
there're two different ones of them too. So you actually have a choice of
four sizes and I don't think the sellers really know shit about what they're
    selling half the time.

In order to eliminate this sort of thing, I bought both sizes and fucking
lost one. And before you say owt, yeah, the fucking one I needed.

Actually, the world is only 14mm deep in them, but I take your point:)

Is there any need to cut the end off?

Couldn't you merely insert an extension bar up the socket [1] and use it
    back to front?
