Blimey, somebody underpriced these....

I got the email alert a few minutes ago, looked at the auction, and hit
    that BIN button like lightning.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8062229044&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1

I thought I'd sold the very last set on the planet, a couple of years
ago. They went to Japan for over £400, including p&p.

This lot, for £140 ferChrissakes, is an utter steal. The seller just
didn't know the value of what he was flogging.

Out with the camera, draft a new ad, put a start of £250 on them, and
    back on Fleabay they go.

Says Quantity: 1 on the auction page I'm looking at and I can't see
another set listed in his auctions....

Listing removed/cancelled. What was it, a bank of 400/4 carbs?

Oh, found it now - your wrapped posting had some garbage in it due to
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable in your headers.

    Good guess though :)

Indeed. And yes, he does have a second set.... In fact, he reckons he's
    got quite a few sets...

    Well, well, well.

Something like that. I've just phoned him and offered to buy the
    lot.....

Actually, I might even keep these. I've got a sort of bank of brand new
400 Four stuff which I buy and just salt away, on the basis that sooner
or later, parts are going to become harder and/or impossible to
    find.....

£140 for a carb set (in the original box, apparently) is just
    unbelievable value.

Don't remind me. Took me a couple of years to get rid of them, although
I did OK in the end.

Honda 400 Four carbs, though, are rather more desirable....

  11. Yes..... He has eight, apparently! I could have them all for £90 a pop.
Sorely tempted, because I'd just let them out onto the market slowly.
Lots of people want 400 Four carbs because every set of used ones is
    fucked.

I'm actually thinking now I'll keep this set I've got. I'll see just how
good they are, and if they're utterly mint (I mean, they might be
shop-soiled) I might buy his entire remaining stock.
    I looked - they aren't NOS.

Not really that interested anyway - I sold the OE shocks off mine and
replaced with Hagons. I'm not after 100% originality, but something that
looks lovely and is nice to ride. That's why it also wears a steel brake
hose and, now, a set of alloy dog-leg levers.

    Bugger! Bugger! Bugger!

He's just emailed me to tell me he's made a mistake, and that they're
carbs for an unknown modern water-cooled Honda 400 - probably that
    naked SF thing.

Hmf. Oh well, there we go. At least he's straight.

    Aha. All is explained.
Well he probly values his ebay feedback, anyway.
Heh. Interesting that you think the profit you'd make, even on six
sets, would get you anything like a 'luxury' holiday. Still, compared
with your usual pikey choices, I suppose a bog-standard package deal
    would be a luxury...

    You goit ;-)

I phoned him, and it turned out he had eight sets, and he was prepared
to sell me all eight sets for £90 a set, still thinking they were
CB400F carbs... I reckon that by releasing them on Ebay slowly, I'd
have cleared £200 minimum profit per set, and probably nearer
    £300......

    Oh well......

Exactly. What sort of a luxury holiday can you get for just a couple
