It's only the weather and I quite enjoy wet weather biking.

I've got good waterproofs[1] and it'll be a good craic just like last
    year.

[1] which I'd better put on cos it's pissing down out there.

has there ever been a dry one?

BTW, I haven't been on a ferry on the bike in years - what's a
reasonable lead time for arrival before the sailing time?

they do, but they're not particularly aesthetically pleasing.

I had been intending to just wear denim jeans and my Alphinestars
paddock jacket. But if it's going to rain, I guess it's the Dainese
    waterproofs.

Yeah, Sedan, 2005 or thereabouts. Blazing hot - we had a pitstop at a
cafe by the Meuse mid-afternoon and I distinctly remember feeling
    sunburnt.

    Half an hour is plenty.

I've been out and bought a waterproof oversuit today, so it is
now guaranteed NOT to rain. Unless I leave it at home.

I'm thinking leather troos (half of a two-piece I have) and
either a Ducati paddock jacket or my (waterproof) ski jacket
on the Hypermotard. Just call me "fashion victim".

I'm seeing it as a bit overcast, but fine otherwise.

ah. I've only been on two, and both pissed it down at least one of the
    days.
    that's what I thought.

Nah, jus the moment they're about to close the gate. At least, that's what
happened to me a few years back. We were very lucky, otherwise we would have
had to wait about 8 hours in Harwich.

ISTR the one in Dieppe had both of those.
Have there ever been *any* ukrm events, whether organised on the fly or
others like the IoM that aren't freezing cold in a blowing gale with
    horizontal rain?

Depends which bike you're taking and my ability to swap it
for "something less gay" and "less likely to clash with my
    attire" to ride.

I bought a Frank Thomas Titanium tour jacket today in J&S.
I never touched their products before but this looks good in every aspect
and fits well. Couldn't find anything else anywhere I liked. For £130 it
doesn't have to last forever or take more than one slide down the road.

I'd be interested in that. Perhaps we could have a 2 centre trip. Alsace
    and Engelberg come to mind...
