darsy emerged from their own little world to say
If it would make your life easier/better then do it. Why are you so
obsessed with equity values? Picking up on what someone else said in
another thread, for someone with a fairly decent salary you do a lot of
fretting about seemingly trivial financial matters.

IME once you knock a wall down between kitchen & another room all other
    reception rooms become redundant[0].

In my last house the dining room acquired a sofa & TV. The close
proximity to the fridge, microwave etc meant that this then became the
    room most frequently inhabited.

We ended up with another reception room that was largely unused. It was
like being at my Gran's house where they always had a "front room" [1]
that never got used except when someone died or got married.

    [0] or kids play room
[1] some people called it a parlour I think

I saw some bloke walking along Fenchurch St the other day in the full
Shelock Holmes style tweed coat with cape and deerstalker. To be
honest, he looked like a complete twat.

With the greatest of respect, I don't think you need a new coat to
    achieve the look...

You'll regret it, I would think.

Might have been my next-door neighbour but one. He's moving to Wales
    soon, though.

I shan't be making homo-erotic posts to UKRM, though, I hope.

Might make things a little better.
Because I don't intend to live where I currently live for more than
another couple of years. The main driver to change the layout of the
kitchen/dining room would be to make the house more salable.
    which one was that, then?
depends on your definition of "fairly decent". I think I'm underpaid
    ;-)
a decamonkey or two is hardly "trivial", I'm afraid.

that was just for the units and fitting, or does that figure include
appliances and structural work (if you had any done)?

Is that like AAFES then? I bought my GPS in a PX and it was much
cheaper than UK prices at the time but I doubt it was any cheaper than
    say Fry's in the US.

Whereas the EFI generally offers British products at British high
    street prices.

    Damn that phoenetic spelling attempt.
I nearly bought a GPS which appeared to be much cheaper than UK
prices, but then I realised I didn't really need or want one.
